Job description

We are currently seeking a passionate and proactive Staff Attorney to join our team at Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas (LANWT). This position presents an exciting opportunity for an individual committed to public interest law, particularly in advocating for survivors of sexual assault and trauma through our Legal Aid for Survivors of Sexual Assault (LASSA) project. As part of our team, you'll have the chance to provide essential legal representation to survivors while collaborating with partner agencies to deliver comprehensive advocacy services.

DESCRIPTION: LANWT is a nonprofit public interest law firm dedicated to providing high-quality, free civil legal services to individuals in 114 counties across North and West Texas.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: As a Staff Attorney, you will be responsible for a range of tasks, including gathering evidence, advising clients on their rights, drafting legal documents, and representing clients in court proceedings and administrative agencies. Additionally, you'll interpret laws and regulations, provide legal assistance in various civil law areas, and engage in outreach and community legal education initiatives. Collaborating with local, regional, and statewide networks, you'll help refer clients to relevant services and may also supervise legal, clerical, volunteer, or student workers.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensed to practice law in Texas.
Experience in contested family law cases preferred.
Prior experience working with survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault preferred.
Strong understanding of relevant Texas legal codes and procedures.
Previous experience serving low-income individuals in a legal capacity preferred.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.
Willingness to travel occasionally within LANWT's service area.

SALARY: The current entry-level salary for this position is $66,500 per year. However, the final salary offered will be commensurate with the applicant's experience.
