The Quality Can Lab Technician is responsible for the execution of Food Safety and Product Quality systems related to the manufacture of low acid canned foods. Re gulatory Compliance: Perform FDA mandated checks inclusive of seam tear downs to meet desired specifications and performs net weight risk analysis for compliance to Weights and Measures standards. Product Conformance: Monitors the manufacture of product in process to assure all applicable quality standards are met. Notification System: Document product holds in the SAP / ETQ Notification System. Documentation: Distributes the documentation used during the manufacturing process.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for placing any product produced or packaged on hold when it does not meet Hill’s quality specifications using the SAP / ETQ Notification System
Monitor in process quality checks inclusive of proximate analysis, and product aesthetics
Perform required can seam tear downs per FDA guidelines to meet desired specifications
Troubleshooting of equipment and / or processes when needed, e.g. NIR, Metal Detector, X-Ray, PECO, Tap Tone, Can Coolers, vision system, etc.
Subject matter expert on food safety in low acid canned foods. Support operations on investigations for foreign material events and other quality focused events capturing necessary information and documentation.
Check and monitor schedule to determine needed paperwork and / or requirements for shift and then coordinate accordingly
Adjust x-ray machine, metal detector and/or other HACCP / oPRP points based on documented procedures
Take necessary composites and paperwork to main lab for analysis
Other support activities as required
Education/Experience Requirements
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor´s Degree
Microsoft Office, Google Productivity, SAP, and/or other computer software
Strong math skills
Ability to work flexible hours
Willing and able to lift up to 55 lbs repeatedly
Willing and able to adhere to all safety and EHS standards, and wear and utilize all personal protective equipment
1 year minimum of manufacturing, military, or relevant experience
Willing to work Monday through Friday on 2rd shift (3 PM - 11PM)
Preferred Qualifications
BS degree in science, business management, or technical field
Key operational knowledge of Hill’s product and operations
Google Productivity and/or other computer software
SAP transactional knowledge
Strong interpersonal skills
Knowledge of Colgate Quality standards and Systems
HACCP Certification
PCQI Certification
BPCS Certification
Analytical Experience
Expected Areas of Skills
Analytical and problem solving skills
Clear and effective communication
Knowledge of Auditing
Ability to quickly learn and utilize computer applications, i.e. Google applications, and SAP
Quick decision making, detail oriented and have a sense of urgency while troubleshooting.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $48,000 - $66,000 USD
Pay is based on multiple non-discriminatory, individualized factors including but not limited to experience, job-related knowledge and education, skills and office/market location. In addition to base salary, salaried employees are eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing and, for Executive-level (salary grade 16 and above) roles only, long-term incentives in the form of Restricted Stock Units and/or Stock Options.
