Montgomery College has an immediate need for a full-time Alumni Director in the Development and Alumni Relations Department. The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm. This is a non-bargaining, exempt, grade 31 position. Montgomery College promotes and creates a working and learning environment rooted in the basic tenets of fairness, diversity, and inclusiveness. This position is eligible for telework for up to two (2) days per week. This eligibility is subject to change based on the needs of the unit.
The Alumni Director is responsible for creating a strategic, pro-active alumni engagement program that seeks to deepen alumni engagement and involvement leading to increased financial support, volunteerism and other visible signs of heightened affinity and connectedness. This is an opportunity for Montgomery College to become a national leader in Alumni Relations for a two-year program.
Contacts and interactions vary and may involve multiple constituencies such as direct interaction with faculty and staff, alumni, including members of the Board of Governors and the Alumni Association, the Montgomery College Board of Trustees, and the Montgomery College Foundation Board of Directors, government officials, College governance groups, and the general public.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and target programs designed to increase the involvement and participation of alumni.
- Develop and manage alumni programs, projects, and initiatives that strategically support the College's goals and objectives.
- Develop and lead the College's overall alumni engagement strategy and programming by identifying, cultivating, and soliciting existing donors and new annual giving prospects.
- Make alumni/donor/volunteer visits each month.
- Develop and expand alumni relations including fundraising, student recruitment, career placement, public relations and other related activities.
- Position the alumni office as well as alumni staff to build strong and effective alliances with internal and external partners.
- Model best practice strategies for recruiting, staffing and recognizing alumni volunteers.
- Design innovative communication strategies and tools to engage alumni and other external stakeholders.
- Effectively manage budgets and resources.
- Develop and implement policies, systems, and procedures for the supervision and operational oversight of activities related to data collection, information management, and reporting.
- Manage and work closely with students, faculty, volunteers, advisory committees, local organizations, and businesses in planning and implementing activities of interest to MC Alumni.
- Manage ongoing recognition, communication, stewardship and events for annual giving donors with the Donor Relations office, including writing thank you letters, making personal calls, arranging meetings, and responding to donor inquiries.
- Provide leadership and direction to a diverse Board of Governors made up of state delegates, business leaders, community leaders, and other former students committed to the welfare and advancement of the College.
- Strategically identify and motivate Alumni to participate in one-on-one meetings with elected and appointed officials at the state and county levels along with College administration to reinforce College/campus priorities and funding for the College.
- Represent the College at internal and external affairs involving MC alumni and/or friends of the College to establish or enhance relationships with constituents and/or prospective donors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business, Communications, Public Relations or related field.
- Five years of progressively responsible professional work experience in an institute of higher learning or similar environment with demonstrated success in alumni relations, annual giving, development.
- The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
- Knowledge of critical organizational practices and goals; broad theoretical and technical knowledge.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of technical project management.
- Knowledge of the College's policies, mission, vision, and the role of the College within the community, the State of Maryland, and higher education.
- Excellent leadership, customer service, organizational and presentation skills as well as the ability to lead, instruct, train, guide, and motivate others.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of alumni program development and implementation of database management.
- Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
Hiring Range $76,679 to $99,671 annually. Initial salary placement is based on candidate experience and internal equity.
