Job purpose
Beacon is seeking a hard-working intern to support the Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) department with a focus on internal and employee communications and engagement. Responsibilities include editing, writing and content publishing and production assignments. This individual must be able to work independently and wear multiple hats to support a variety of projects. We are seeking an individual who enjoys writing with an ability to give a voice to our mission, values and people: writing headlines, summaries and short articles for internal communications channels like the company’s intranet, weekly newsletter and department materials. Ideal candidate has some visual and journalistic techniques for effective and engaging storytelling, including photography and graphic, and will support some event planning and management.
Duties and responsibilities
- The Communications Intern will work independently and, in a team, to support the Corporate Communications department with a focus on internal and employee engagement and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives
- Write compelling content: research and produce content that demonstrates Beacon’s company values and winning culture
- Assist in planning, writing and managing e-blasts and e-newsletters
- Update company intranet and digital signage with current events, relevant news
- Assist in developing internal communications campaign analysis, insights and opportunities
- Design event/program materials, graphics and other communication material as assigned
- Occasionally help create various communications around Corporate HQ on an ongoing basis
- Liaise with Social Media Department and be point person for Comms Dept in social media content and campaign development and management. This includes creating, updating and maintaining various corporate communications social media, including monitoring, posting, scheduling and reporting Linkedin updates
- Contribute to DEI-centered communication campaign strategies, Council meeting planning and various social media campaigns
- Manage internal communication editorial and event calendars
- Collaborate with functional staff on new ideas, directions, and tools for effective and engaging employee communications
- Offer team administrative support such as scheduling leadership meetings, handling mailings, packaging campaign materials and sending out to the field and branches and other tasks and duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Currently working towards an undergraduate degree in communications or related field; preferably a program with a strong writing emphasis
- Minimum of 3 years college completion and currently enrolled in a four-year degree producing program.
- Proficient in Data analytical tools and strategic thinking
- Must be hard-working, responsible, and reliable
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient skill with Computer Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
- Professional written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in effective, inspiring, inventive visual and digital storytelling, including social media
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, take direction and work collaboratively
- Ability to build relationships, listen and ask questions
- Strong interpersonal and persuasive communications skills
- Ability to prioritize and work under pressure
Working conditions
- Available full-time up to 40 hours during summer
- Minimal travel requirements as needed for business purposes
- Work assignments may be completed remotely and/or available company offices/branches within respective markets
Physical requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer and/or keyboard
- Heavy methods of verbal and auditory communication via phone, virtual calls, and/or email
