Shipping Manufacturing Technician

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced shipping tech to join our shipping department team. In this role, you will ensure that projects are staged for installation, crated for shipping, or ready for customer pickup. You will support the shipping team by loading and unloading shipments, operating a forklift, receiving, and stocking material, moving jobs in and out of QC, assisting with assembling signs and sign components, bagging, tagging, packing, and crating work orders, and pulling and coordinating hardware for installation.

Responsibilities:

• Shipping & receiving
  • Maintaining staging wall
  • Fabricating shipping crates efficiently, safely, completely, and cost effectively.
  • Receiving supplies/materials/PO's and immediately storing, placing, and delivering to the proper receptacle, rack, desk, or shelf. Document receipt of Purchas Order's (PO's) to all stakeholders through email.
  • Provide the necessary assistance for all loading and unloading of trucks, trailers, cranes, and flatbeds.
  • Ensure that all signs and sign components are properly wrapped, bagged, tagged, labeled, and protected after QC and before shipment/installation/pickup.
  • Assemble non illuminated signs and sign components.
• Staging Signs
  
  • Keeping staging wall clean, organized, tidy, functional, and up to date.
  • Label jobs and log sign locations through proper communication channels.
  • Work with QC department to understand when jobs are ready to be staged.
  • Work with the Install department to understand the installation schedule for installation staging.
• Hardware
  • Supply hardware and touchup paint when necessary for jobs.
  • Reference backlog to keep record of special hardware needs for custom jobs.
  • Keep stock and inventory of hardware ordering when low or close to minimum amount.
  • Maintain a clean and organized hardware department by constantly consolidating and eliminating unnecessary stock.
• Quality Assurance
  • Perform regular quality checks on sign components.
  • Consistently adhere to established quality and methodical standards of manufacturing to meet and exceed customer expectations.
• Safety
  • Maintain a clean and organized workplace environment.
  • Train employees in how to properly conduct their job in a safe manner, to include equipment use.
  • Maintain SouthWood Certification to operate and drive a forklift.
  • Enforce all safety rules and document safety incidents with the QA and Safety Manager.
• Complete and On Time
  • Setting and evaluating quality control and assurance standards, along with best practice.
• Process
  • Adherence to all SW processes and standards.
  • Opening the shop - ensure gates are open for shipment and installation. Air compressors are ON.
  • Closing the shop - Ensure gates, doors, and roll-up doors are closed and locked. Air compressors are OFF.
• Progress Tracking, Coordination, and Communication
  • Receiving incoming shipments and documenting receipt, location, and delivery.
  • Coordinating shipping, providing quotes, tracking numbers, documentation, insurance options, and updates on shipping progress.
  • Coordinating trash, waste, and recycle pick up.

Qualifications and Skills:

- Proven experience in a shipping and handling capacity.

- Strong attention to detail and dedication to maintaining quality standards.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective client interaction and team collaboration.

- knowledge of shipping materials, tools, and equipment.

- Time management and organizational skills to oversee multiple projects and meet deadlines.

- Safety-conscious with expertise in safe handling and disposal of chemicals, adhesives & all hazardous materials.

- Excellent organizational skills to manage work orders and maintain an orderly workspace.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet production deadlines.

- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in Electrical or structural fabrication is a plus.

- Familiarity with inventory management and tracking systems.

- Ability to interpret design drawings and blueprints accurately.
