About the Role:
As the Corporate Controller at Neuron, you will oversee the Accounting function for Neuron, and report to the CFO. You will hire, lead, and mentor a global Accounting team optimized for a high growth SaaS business, and will help Neuron along on the path to achieving public company readiness. You will partner with all functions to build and improve business and accounting processes, systems, and controls, while ensuring that core accounting functions are operating at the highest levels of excellence.
What You'll Do:
- Lead and direct all Accounting functions: revenue recognition, global accounting operations, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, commissions, capitalized software, payroll, stock compensation and equity, general ledger, international accounting, internal and external financial reporting, audits, and close
- Hire, mentor, and lead a high-performing cohesive global accounting team that provides excellent support to the company and that identifies and leads opportunities to automate and streamline accounting operations
- Manage and ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual closes
- Write, and oversee the writing of, accounting memos as necessary, develop accounting policies in compliance with all applicable/relevant standards, and develop efficient processes and procedures to ensure compliance
- Own the resolution of accounting questions and issues, and the adoption of new accounting standards as necessary
- Stay current on the latest FASB pronouncements and standards
- Coordinate financial statement audits with external auditors
- Own corporate treasury and our banking relationships
- Oversee global tax and statutory filing requirements
- Manage, and work with Legal to manage, the Company's entities, global tax structure, intercompany agreements, and compliance
- Choose and implement an ERP and associated systems
- Continually evaluate opportunities to drive greater efficiencies and effectiveness in accounting and operational processes/systems and in the accounting close process
- Ensure appropriate internal controls are in place for all accounting and financial workflows and systems
- Oversee the development and maintenance of internal control documentation
- Serve as the Company's accounting business partner to executive team members, and establish strong business partnerships with cross-functional teams, including but not limited to Sales, Marketing, Customer Support and Service Delivery, R&D, Legal, IT, and People
- Collaborate with Go-to-Market leadership on expanding commercial footprint by state and by country
- Support deal negotiations by providing input on transaction structures to align contract terms and business objectives; review significant revenue related agreements to guide appropriate accounting
- Play a key role in any business-related transactions with a focus on compliance with policies and procedures and new accounting pronouncements
- Work closely with FP&A on reporting efforts and accruals related to budgeting and forecasting
- Present financial information to CFO, work with FP&A on financial statement reporting to Board and external parties, and oversee all related financial filings as appropriate
- Support key company initiatives involving accounting matters, including potential strategic transactions and M&A transactions from pre-acquisition due diligence through post-acquisition integration
What You'll Need:
- CPA highly desirable; Active CPA status desirable
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting desirable
- Demonstrated success as Corporate Controller or Director of Accounting in a fast paced, growing software company required
- Experience at companies in a multinational environment required
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience. Mix of public accounting, growth stage, and public company B2B SaaS experience ideal. Minimum 3+ years of combined public accounting (ex. Big 4) and 5+ years in industry at a SaaS company required
- Big 4 public accounting experience desirable
- SEC reporting experience required
- Excellent technical accounting skills, especially revenue recognition (ASC 606), lease accounting (ASC 842), and stock compensation (ASC 718), strong general knowledge of SEC, FASB, GAAP, SOX / internal controls
- Experience transitioning from private to public company requirements (including the IPO process) and operating as a public company desirable
- Excellent software proficiency and understanding of technology required. Proven experience in selecting and implement finance and accounting business applications required
- Solid experience with accounting systems (i.e. NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Quickbooks)
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (Gmail, Sheets, Docs) and Microsoft tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) required; proficiency in Hubspot desirable
- Ability and experience to simplify and scale relevant processes and systems while supporting a fast moving business required
- M&A experience desirable
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to tailor communication to audience, comfort with public speaking, and empathetic listening skills required
- Proven ability to build and lead a world class global accounting team at scale so that it operates truly as one team, and ability to grow the careers of team members
- Ability to manage a remote team
- Ability to work with colleagues across multiple time zones
- Ability to build and sustain excellent relationships at multiple levels internally and with partners. High emotional intelligence and an ability to challenge the status quo in a nuanced way. Ability to influence areas of the business that are not under direct control
