The Greenwich Audubon Center has been connecting people with nature since 1943. Creating life-changing experiences that enable community members and their families to appreciate, understand and protect the natural world is at the very core of our mission. The Greenwich Audubon Center is a nature center and wildlife sanctuary owned and operated by the National Audubon Society. The nature center is located in the southwest corner of Connecticut, in the town of Greenwich. The Greenwich Audubon Center has over 15 miles of scenic hiking trails and includes 650 acres of mixed forest, meadows, wetlands, ponds, and streams. The mission of the National Audubon Society is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of the Earth's biological diversity and humanity. The Greenwich Audubon Center strives to meet this mission through education, conservation, and environmental research to encourage the responsible usage and stewardship of natural lands. The Summer Camp Coordinator will work with the Camp Director and Audubon Education Specialists to develop lesson plans. You will conduct daily hikes and other activities with a group of up to 15 children, while maintaining a safe, fun, and educational environment. The Camp Coordinator is also responsible for making sure all camper records are kept up to date, creating rosters for camp organization, and for handling any first aid and medical situations that arise from camp activities.

 

This position begins on Jun 17th, 2024, and includes a week of staff training July 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. Summer Nature Day Camp begins on July 8th and ends on August 23rd. The daily work hours are 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. Each Tuesday all staff will be required to attend a staff meeting from 3:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m. (day subject to change)

Compensation:

$19.00 / hour

• Respond to all First Aid & CPR Emergencies and enter all first aid injuries into the Health Log.
• Monitor First Aid Supplies; alert the Camp Director when supplies are getting low.
• Update the emergency contact information and summer camp staff roster, when needed.
• Schedule the first aid/CPR training and guest presenters.
• Facilitate the C.I.T. orientation training with the Camp Director; assist with the preparations of other summer camp staff training.
• Monitor the C.I.T’s performance and ensure that all are successfully fulfilling their volunteer responsibilities
• Maintain the outstanding paperwork log and follow up with parents.
• Along with the End of Camp Director, coordinate a Summer Camp Appreciation/Awards Ceremony for the C.I.T.’s and the camp staff.
• Take photographs of camp activities and campers to post on Facebook while adhering to youth guidelines.
• Update the closing ceremony invitations and send to Camp Director each week.
• Attend weekly meetings and support camp staff, as needed.

• 21 years or older.
• A current driver’s license and personal vehicle are required.
• CPR and first aid certification are required.
• Completion of at least two years of college coursework in environmental or life sciences or environmental education. College graduate preferred.
• Some teaching experience and/or curriculum development is required.
• Confidence in leading a group and initiating activities, working independently, and team teaching.
• Strong work ethic, natural history background (specifically in the New England area), self-motivation, on-going enthusiasm, commitment, flexibility, a desire to learn, and the ability to work well with others and with children.
• Interest in conservation and the mission of the National Audubon Society.
