Description
Pay Range: $26.00 to $34.00 per hour
Responsible for evaluating, implementing and maintaining safety and environmental compliance programs in the aerospace manufacturing sector. This includes conducting risk assessments, audits, inspections, and developing policies and procedures. They also work to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulatory agencies.
Essential Functions:
- Provides new hire safety orientation as well as escorting new employees' contractors or temps as needed.
- Conducts incident and near miss investigations and ensures corrective actions are implemented.
- Maintains various testing and health programs such as respirator, audiogram, vision, FAA driver pool, etc.
- Provides technical support for environmental sampling under storm water.
- Collects data, prepare computations, and prepare reports & permit applications as required
- Prepares EHS instructions, trainings, standard operating procedures & plans as assigned
- Provides sampling/ analysis support with our storm water, hexavalent chromium programs
- Ensures working conditions are in compliance with regulatory agencies and company policy.
- Heads a safety committee that promotes well-being of employees and recognizes participating members
- Conducts regularly scheduled safety toolbox topic meetings and area-specific job-safety-walks.
- Completes necessary workers' compensation submissions and claims handling follow-up.
- Investigates and tracks job injuries, loss days and maintains and posts the OSHA 300 log.
- Maintains the inspection program for fire extinguisher monthly and annual maintenance checks
- Reviews all emergency eyewash station inspections for adequacy and thoroughness.
- Coordinates training program and records for all forklift operators, forklift inspections and incidents.
- Distributes and provides support services for Rx safety glasses and safety boots and other PPE as needed.
- Responds to emergencies and non-routine incidents and maintains emergency response plans as required
- Performs miscellaneous administrative work including processes purchase orders and invoices, component back charging, obtain quotes, purchase shop supplies, chemicals, maintenance supplies, instruments, replacement equipment, services, etc.
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed.
Position Requirements
- 2 years of experience in managing safety and compliance programs in a manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of occupational safety regulations
- Knowledge of forklift training and inspection standards
- Knowledge of crane training and rigging inspection standards
- Knowledge of environmental programs for storm water
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in industrial safety, public health or a closely related field.
- One (1) to three (3) years of technical experience in environmental health and safety program management such as: environmental compliance, fire-life safety, occupational safety, hazardous materials
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- DOT/RCRA Hazardous waste manifest training (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)
- Valid CA driver's license (required)
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as regulatory documents, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and regulatory bodies. Ability to communicate effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Must be proficient in basic computer skills and MS Office programs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited resources exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

- Ability and willingness to utilize a respirator as needed.
