Job description
The Constructability Lead is directly responsible for ensuring that all construction requirements and intelligence are integrated into the design and estimate throughout the development phase of a project and properly turned over to operations upon project awards. This person will be responsible for performing the initial constructability reviews (as engaged by the lead estimator) which will include the creation of the construction work breakdown structure (WBS) and site risk identification and mitigation.

Responsibilities
- Research, analyze, and understand the scope of work for nationwide geohazard repair projects.
- Develop constructability assessments and execution strategy for inclusion into design considerations and cost estimates.
- Recommends equipment set-ups, design detail improvements, material improvements to improve the safety, production rates, and constructability of projects designed and installed by GSI for moderately complex to extremely complex work tasks.
- Documents best practices and regularly provides training to project development engineers, design engineers, estimators, and project managers as an integral part of a continuous learning environment.
- Provides leadership to estimators to ensure all constructability enhancements and contingencies are properly costed.
- Identifies operational limitations that may affect execution for infrastructure projects in the transportation, rail, mining, and energy sectors.
- Identify potential risks to execution and develop a mitigation plan to reduce or eliminate the risks.
- Work with other functional groups to identify and incorporate complex specification requirements into the project cost.
- Participate in field walk downs, design reviews and site access / environmental reviews.
- Sets priorities to ensure task completion and coordinates work activities with other team members to ensure delivery dates are met.
Minium Qualifications
- 10+ years work planning, construction planning
- Advanced knowledge of a broad range of construction activities including production rates equipment can achieve in a variety of operational scenarios including geotechnical drilling, crane access, crane support, excavators with custom attachments, remote access aerial lifts, grouting equipment, shotcrete operations, mining, tunneling, and hi-rail operations on freight and catenary powered lines
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented work environment.
- Expert at reading and interpreting plans and specifications including USACE, DOT, FHWA.
- Experienced delivering successful projects including negotiated bids, hard bids, Unit Price, Lump Sum, and Force Account work.
- Organizational skills, communication and people skills required. The ability to communicate with internal and external customers.
- Vast knowledge of equipment vendors, preferably nation wide
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree with 4 years relevant work experience
- Project Management or Certified Construction Management Certificate as recognized by such organizations as the Project Management Institute or CMAA.
- Strong written, oral, presentation and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated initiative and leadership Skills.
- Working knowledge of critical-path-method scheduling tools and project budgets.
