Overview

$20/hr

The Certified Medical Assistant will serve as a part of a team of child, adolescent, and young adult psychiatric providers, as well as a part of the administrative team for an outpatient mental health clinic. The Certified Medical Assistant will support the psychiatric providers in practice management, clerical, and medical functions.

Responsibilities

• Assist the psychiatrists/psychiatric nurse practitioner in tasks related to providing the highest quality outpatient client care, including taking vital measurements such as height, weight, blood pressure, and pulse before patient is seen, and recording the measurements in the client medical record.• Monitor and assist in refilling requests for medication. In addition, support psychiatry staff in obtaining prior authorizations for medication when necessary.• Assist the Nurse Practitioner and Physician in obtaining all medical documentation pertaining to client medical histories and assist with ensuring that lab results are obtained and reviewed by the psychiatry team.• Obtain and maintain documentation related to psychiatry services in the client’s Electronic Medical Record, such as Informed Consent for Psychiatry Services. Additionally, support the psychiatry and clinical staff with scanning, faxing, and entering data into the clients Electronic Medical Records as needed.• Manage psychiatry staff schedules to ensure that staff schedules are full and efficiently scheduled and make reminder calls to patients about scheduled appointments.

Additional Responsibilities

• Coordinate with centralized referral and clinicians on adding new and returning clients to the psychiatry caseload and monitoring all necessary prerequisites.• Utilize appropriate skills in telephone etiquette when answering the telephone and placing calls, making sure to record messages and pass along to appropriate staff, communicating with primary care physician offices and pharmacies.• Assist the office manager in administrative tasks related to client care.• Take initiative, demonstrate a positive attitude, and operate collaboratively.• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must enjoy interacting with clients and possess skills for high quality patient care.• Strong written and verbal communication skills.• Computer skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Word); experience with electronic health record systems.• Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.• Ability to multi-task with a minimal amount of direct supervision.• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.• Detail-oriented; strong emphasis on quality; effective time management skills.• Spanish/English bilingual preferred.Education, Clinical Licensure, and/or Experience• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate Degree strongly preferred.• Certified Medical Assistant certificate required.• Prior experience in a medical or health care setting strongly preferred.• Proven experience in working with an electronic health record system.• Previous experience working with adolescents is strongly preferred.

• Must be able to perform sedentary aspects of position, including, but not limited to desk and electronic work, and occasionally driving to meetings and trainings.• Must be able to sit, stand, bend, and walk frequently throughout the day.• Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs.• Employee may be required to intervene in order to de-escalate clients. Employee needs to complete the agency’s human service worker safety.• Must be in relatively good health and be able to perform the duties listed above.
