Job description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS : Works under the direction of the MPD Victim Supervisor. Complies with department mission in ensuring that victims and survivors of crime are provided with crisis intervention, support, and referrals to local victim service agencies. Collaborates with community partners and county staff to raise awareness of the impact of violence and trauma and the resources are available to victims in our community. Provides support and assistance to victims and witnesses throughout the investigation process serving as a liaison and advocate with law enforcement. Issues oral and written instructions as needed to facilitate service delivery. Works with leadership to improve work procedures and protocols. Collaborates with department’s leadership team to develop and evaluate victim-centered programming. Gathers data to prepare composite reports from individual and/or database reports. Develops and implements in-service training and educational outreach programs, as well as identify best practices in the field and adapt them to community needs. Acts as a liaison with the Shelby County DA’s Office, Shelby County Crime Victims & Rape Crisis Center and local social services. Assists with revising operational and programmatic protocols. Maintains records of and identifies and tracks trends in victim services provided. Completes case reports and progression updates to supervisor and victim’s families.

OTHER FUNCTIONS :

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with management, staff members, and the general public. Requires the ability to effectively manage crisis situations and make decisions independently.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS : Work is performed in an office. Some evening and weekend shifts may be required. Travel to various locations throughout the City as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, management, or related social or human services major or a related field and four (4) years of professional experience with human services; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. All candidates must successfully pass a criminal justice employment background check to work within the Police Services Division.
