Telework Information: This position is eligible for hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.
CalPERS seeks a Financial Accountant II, Specialist in the Financial Reporting and Accounting Services Division.
Under the general direction of the Financial Accountant IV, the Financial Accountant II (Specialist) leads and creates Total Fund Performance Reporting in compliance with Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS). Performs complex performance calculations for the Total Fund Investment Portfolio, which contributes to the overall value of the Public Employees’ Retirement Fund (PERF). Responsible for the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) reporting and GIPS compliance related to investment items and performance. Reviews investment transactions to determine conformity with GASB and GIPS compliance and reporting requirements for each type of transaction; researches industry impacts to GASB related changes ensuring information is accurate; and, presents the findings and recommendations to the FA IV. Collaborates with the Investment Office (INVO) on necessary GASB and GIPS reporting, accounting requirements and developing solutions for gathering the data and reporting errors for review of new transactional data. Leads and provides oversight of investment related data within the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and quarterly financial statements to the Finance and Administration Committee. Participates in FINO-wide projects and cross-asset teams to help achieve division goals and objectives.

Statement of Qualifications

The SOQ must be typed, titled “Statement of Qualifications”, and each statement must be numbered and answered listing all relevant experience, education, and training, including places of employment, dates, and duties performed.
The SOQ must not exceed two pages in length and must not have font smaller than 12 point and address the following:
- Based on your understanding of the Duty Statement, describe your investment knowledge, skills, and experience highlighting any specific experience you possess that would make you the ideal candidate for this position.
- Describe your experience in researching Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements and presenting recommendations to management for new or streamlined processes.
- Describe your experience in analyzing investment accounting transactions, performing complex performance calculations, and producing investment related financial reports and audited financial statements.

- Knowledge of GAAP, GASB and GIPS accounting and reporting requirements
- Ability to gather and analyze a wide variety of investment, financial, and statistical data for the preparation of various monthly financial reports, quarterly full-accrual financial statements, and the annual audited financial statements
- Ability to analyze and perform complex performance calculations for all accounting activities related to public and private market investments
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrates a high degree of independence, initiative, and responsibility in successfully performing the assigned job duties
