About the Department:
George Mason University Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation and a private corporation organized and operated exclusively for the benefit of George Mason University. The Foundation manages, invests, and administers private gifts, including endowments and real property.
About the Position:
Reporting to the Senior Accountant, this position provides financial support to the accounting department within the Foundation. The position reconciles cash, manages the cash flow, and imports and records cash transactions in the accounting software.
Responsibilities:
- Completes daily cash reporting and monthly reconciliation of multiple cash accounts;
- Processes cash receipt batches and imports of gift batches, including Anthology and fee utilities; prepares and posts cash receipts and journal entries. Maintains fee exemption list to ensure unique/non-standard fee calculations are captured correctly in MIP;
- Processes outgoing wires and ACHs, review OFAC documentation for international wires and perform quarterly OFAC review on donations;
- Responsible for the monthly review of pledge activity to ensure consistency between PatriotForce and MIP, and the appropriate recording of pledge payments vs. gifts including monthly review of fund allocation for all pledges;
- Participates in financial audits and special assignments as requested by supervisor, Assistant Controller, and Controller; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience reading bank statements, using online banking systems, and experience identifying types of transactions and recording appropriately in general ledger and routing to appropriate department;
- Experience with cash accounting transactions;
- Experience manipulating and recording/processing accounting information from various sources;
- Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Excel including utilizing formulas, pivot tables, v-lookups;
- Knowledge of bank/cash accounting reconciliation processes;
- Knowledge of cash accounting transactions;
- Skill in managing large loads of data;
- Skill in organizing various projects and transactions in a financial environment;
- Ability to work with various file types for importing and exporting (example: .csv, .xls);
- Ability to manipulate data in various file types;
- Ability to problem solve and think critically about financial transactions;
- Ability to communicate effectively with others, through written and oral communication;
- Ability to be proactive and manage daily tasks in a dynamic financial environment; prioritize tasks, and ability to seek guidance on prioritizing tasks as necessary;
- Ability to work independently;
- Ability to take initiative with limited supervision;
- Ability to research and utilize available resources; and
- Detail oriented.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in related field;
- Experience in a non-profit foundation or higher education;
- Knowledge of accounting software; Abila MIP preferred; and
- Skill in basic data analysis.
