Basic Function:

The Department of Psychological Sciences at Kent State University invites applications for a post-doctoral scholar position. The successful candidate will become part of a multi-disciplinary investigation to prospectively examine health and well-being in a cohort of >10,000 young adults. Led by PIs. Karin Coifman and John Gunstad, the team of investigators will track mental, physical, academic, and social outcomes and deliver novel interventions using smart technology.

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:  

The post-doc will help coordinate the KSU Student Life Study and have an opportunity to assist with other existing data collection efforts,manuscript preparation, grant development, and develop new lines of inquiry based on current findings.   They will work within a cross-disciplinary research program and enhance skills necessary for a successful research career. Both Drs Coifman and Gunstad have successfully mentored all prior post-docs into independent, faculty positions. Post-docs are fully integrated into the department and can avail themselves of departmental and university resources. Finally, clinical PhDs will also be able to complete additional clinical training to accumulate the required clinical hours for licensure.  This position is funded for at least two years, with continuation beyond two years possible.  Salary is consistent with NIH levels and includes health insurance and a stipend for professional travel and research materials

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in Psychology and have a background in conducting human subjects research.

Ideal candidates are individuals in the early stages of their research careers, with a desire to pursue new research opportunities and seek extramural funding.

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Preference will be for clinically-trained PhDs, but non-clinical applicants are also welcome.

Advanced quantitative skills are preferable, but not required.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
