Position Summary:
The Department of Emergency Medicine at Rutgers, New Jersey Medical School is seeking a qualified candidate to serve in the role of Vice Chair for Research of the Department of Emergency Medicine. The candidate will be eligible for a faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or greater pending experience. The VCR will serve as a leader in advancing the research mission of the department. The VCR will work collaboratively with the chair and vice chairs for academic affairs and clinical operations to ensure all missions of the department are respected and advanced. The VCR oversees and provides mentoring of faculty, fellows, residents, and medical students in their research efforts and provides oversight of compliance with ethical and other regulatory research practices. The VCR will maintain a robust, externally funded personal research program, and part of their efforts will be to increase the depth and breadth of the research and scholarly portfolio of the faculty, particularly extramural funding opportunities. The VCR will also represent the department within Rutgers and leverage research opportunities within governmental (such as NIH , AHRQ , CDC , NJ) and non-governmental organizations (such as SAEM , EMF , AAMC ). The Vice-Chair will play a role in the recruitment and retention of diverse faculty members and fellows.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Ph.D. in epidemiology, global health, healthcare delivery science and innovation, health services research, population health or a related field or Doctor of Medicine or equivalent, with appropriate training and/or experience
Demonstrate ethical conduct, professionalism, interpersonal skills, and organizational management abilities to direct and develop academic physicians and support staff effectively
Experience and productivity in academic emergency medicine research, as evidenced by scholarship, publications, grant funding, and national academic activities.
Experience in administration at a unit or department level is desired
Experience in guiding and mentoring junior faculty, fellows, resident physicians, and medical students in research activities
Possess professional recognition within national professional and scientific organizations
Able to build constructive collaborative academic relationships with other academic departments and external organizations
Demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in academic medicine
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in spoken and written form
If a physician must have excellent training and clinical skills
