Job Description
The Purchasing Agent is responsible for a range of activities related to the operation and administration of the Purchasing department along with some miscellaneous office administration tasks and month end reporting.
Essential Responsibilities
Purchasing
- Order for sales orders-drop ship and parts coming to DZ
- Grinder parts
- Check parts availability for sales
- Order office/janitorial supplies
- Retail sales parts
- Update punch list
- Order for grinders off shopping lists
- Manage long lead time items and place orders in advance
- Track price increases while ensuring that vendors abide by 30-day written notices for price increases
- Place bulk steel orders quarterly
Inventory
- Assist auditors with inventory checks and research major variances
- Transfer stock material to jobs
General
- Maintains necessary and required documentation
- Understands and follows all Diamond Z Safety policies and procedures
- Perform other tasks as assigned or needed
Additional Responsibilities
- Work with the engineering department to ensure all grinders/transporters that will be leaving that month have material transferred-close jobs
- Run Open PO and Backorder reports to clean up old POs
- Coordinate with engineering department in finding new parts as well as on parts/BOM issues
- Receive and vet quotes for various office renovation projects
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to promote a team environment
Qualifications
- Ability to function in a production environment and communicate comfortably with associates in all levels of the organization
- Experience with Epicor is a plus
- Proficient with Windows and MS Office
- Experience with steel fabrication and terminology is a plus

Working Conditions
- The Purchasing Assistant will generally work in a controlled climate office environment but will also frequently be in a shop and yard environment with possible exposure to the elements and other hazards.
