Job description
Forterra Building Products is seeking a Drafting Technician for its Grand Prairie, TX location.
The Design Technician, reporting to the Engineering Manager, will prepare product shop drawings and details for assigned projects.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS - Prepare shop drawings (submittal and production) using computer assisted design ,CAD from plans, specifications, rough sketches and/or verbal instructions.
- Perform take-offs from provided plans and specifications for each project.
- Ensure the detailed drawings are prepared and transferred to the customer, engineer of record and/or the Sales Representative in a clear and timely manner with minimum supervision
- Meet minimum productivity goals consistently. Some overtime may be required to meet deadlines.
- Consult with in-house engineers for steel and/or product design
- Prepare details to specify dimensions, materials, and processes used in making the product
- Review submittals and production drawings, details and specifications prior to handing over to the customer or production for final review or fabrication.
- Coordinate with outside vendors to ensure the proper accessories are specified and ordered per the plans and/or specifications.
- Familiarize with the product lines, forms, production building techniques and each plant’s production capabilities
- Other duties as may be assigned from time to time
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Minimum two year degree from an accredited university, college or trade school. Equivalent job experience may be substituted.
- Must be diligent to constantly seek improvement of drafting skills through self-study
- Prolific in preparing shop drawings and details
- Good math skills in geometry and trigonometry
- Demonstrate competency and knowledge in performing duties listed above
