Job Summary:
Directs operational activities related to construction of highways, bridges, roads, parking lots, site excavation, pipelines, and other construction projects; responsible for planning, execution, and monitoring of overall production and profitability of construction operations within assigned area. This position covers our Central Region in Wyoming and Fort Collin, Colorado
Main Responsibilities:
- Embrace the Company’s safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
- Support, promote, and practice the Company’s core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies
- Promote safety of all operations in assigned area; actively involved in continuously improving safety processes
- Support and promote company strategy initiatives
- Supervise all aspects of construction operations in assigned area/region
- Actively research market with the aid of project management/estimating team to plan estimating & bid schedules
- Supervise bidding and estimating processes; review and analyze bid results; review and co-sign construction contracts, subcontracts and purchase orders; review and approve construction methods and schedules
- Assign contracts/projects to Project Managers, monitor all aspects of construction performance, and construction cash flow, review and approve construction methods, schedules and performance and coordinate use of equipment
- Prepare profit and loss reports for construction contracts and ensure that accurate steps are taken to correct problems on contracts
- Hire, direct, and promote development of supervisory personnel, hold general oversight of subcontractors and staff engaged in planning and implementing construction projects
- Communicate goals and objectives to construction teams
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with state, county, local government and industry officials
- Routinely review all levels of expenses to assure budget amounts are not exceeded; recommend operational budgets to senior management
- Assure compliance with applicable laws and regulations issued by all regulatory agencies
- Coordinate with asset management personnel to ensure required equipment is received on a timely basis
- Confer with customers and representatives of associated industries to evaluate and promote improved and expanded services in area
- Develop and coordinate implementation of plans for efficient use of materials, machines, and employees
- Review construction costs and product quality; modify programs to maintain and improve profitable operations
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or similar field (and/or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Valid drivers’ license and ability to maintain a clean motor vehicle record
Skills:
- At least 10 years of experience in paving, utility, and road/bridge construction or similar industry preferred
- Ability to lead and motivate others; at least 5 years of experience effectively managing and leading teams
- Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local agency (OSHA/MSHA, DEQ, DOT, etc.) regulations
- Experience managing budgets, performing in-depth financial analysis, and forecasting
- Self-directed, results-oriented, and highly motivated, requiring minimal direct guidance
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, problem-solve, and work under consistent pressure of deadlines
- Demonstrated proficiency using computer programs, including MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), and production/scheduling planning software
Physical Requirements:
- Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE), as required by company safety guidelines
- Occasionally required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
- Regularly required to drive a vehicle to worksites and offices; may be required to occasionally operate heavy equipment
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Regularly required to sit for long periods at a desk using a computer
- Work performed in office and field environments; frequent exposure to typical construction site conditions, including dust and loud noise, and all weather conditions
- Regularly required to stand and walk over uneven terrain
- Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Extensive travel with overnight stays away from home may be required
- Regularly required to use hands to feel, handle and manipulate objects, write, use a keyboard and/or mobile device
- Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear), and perform tasks requiring visual acuity
