Job description
Lighthouse Lab Services is excited to represent a laboratory in Sterling, VA seeking a General Supervisor for their growing operations.
Reporting to the Technical Supervisor, Laboratory Director, and Chief Operating Officer, the laboratory General Supervisor will manage all daily lab operations and staff. The perfect candidate will have experience with or desire to work in a start-up lab environment and exhibit an entrepreneurial spirit that focuses on developing wellness and the workforce.

Position Duties and Responsibilities
- Co-develop all project critical documentation required for the laboratory developed tests (LDTs), such as the business executive summary, the scientific executive summary, and the detailed project plan
- Responsible for the daily maintenance and performance of the CLIA laboratory
- Assist testing personnel as needed and acts as supervisor of daily laboratory activities
- Maintain laboratory equipment and inventory
- Assist technical supervisor with proficiency testing, competency testing, and training
- Assist technical supervisor with development of CLIA documentation for validation and verification of test systems
- Assist technical supervisor with the assessment of laboratory data, including QC data, validation/verification data, proficiency testing
- Responsible for personnel selection, retention, human resources transactions, performance programs and evaluations, Labor Relations issues, and discipline and discharge
- Lead CLIA inspection preparation (also following CAP General Checklist category), assist with inspection preparation and audit
- Assist with selection and onboarding of laboratory IT services
- Identify and resolve facilities issues (Physical Plant, Housekeeping)
- Oversee Quality Systems Management Program
- Actively participate in the Laboratory Safety Programs
- Oversee laboratory renovations including planning and implementation of laboratory internal projects
- Responsible for the submission of the Department’s annual budget to include capital equipment requests with justifications and all reagent rental contracts to the Chief Operations Officer
- Responsible for all departmental non-exempt personnel, supply and expense and capital equipment budget development, implementation and monitoring for all clinical cost centers to include accuracy of CPT and ICD codes used for billing
- Oversee the provisions of research related activities in so far as they relate to the use of laboratory resources for testing, billing, and analytics
- Accountable to the Chief Financial Officer for issues with Department billing and collection
- Oversee compliance with all established standards, statutes and regulations for all accreditations, permits and licensure (CLIA/CAP/COLA/ISO)
- Analyze, evaluate, develop and implement plans regarding improvement of laboratory services that includes expansion of services for revenue generation, and proposals for cost saving initiatives under the direction of the Laboratory Director and executive suite
- Responsible for ensuring excellent customer service for internal and external stakeholders
Minimum Required Qualifications
- BS in Biology or Medical Laboratory Science
- 1-3 years serving in a High Complexity clinical CLIA/CAP laboratory setting
- Working knowledge of molecular biology and molecular biology procedures (e.g. different types of PCR, ELISA) and diagnostic testing
- Technical writing: SOPs, grant proposals, validation/verification proposals, scientific proposals, test reports
- Ability to assist in review of laboratory data with senior scientist/technical supervisor
Preferred Qualifications
- MLS (ASCP) or equivalent
- Experience with grant writing and other technical writing
- Experience with CO2 Incubator
