What you will be doing: As a Long-term, Non-Permanent Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) 1, you will be embedded within the Southcentral Foundation and the State of Alaska HIV/STD program and provide a wide range of disease control and prevention services statewide, with an emphasis working with Southcentral patients. You will also consult with health care providers and direct services to persons exposed to or infected with HIV/STDs and other infectious diseases. These services include exposure notification, field testing, field treatment, and linkage to additional services as needed, with work primarily at the Southcentral Foundation office and occasional work at the Anchorage State of Alaska office location upon completion of training.

The benefits of joining our team: This State of Alaska HIV/STD Program position will be embedded at Southcentral Foundation (SCF) with co-supervision between by a State of Alaska DIS 2 and Southcentral Foundation Nurse Manager.
This position includes collaboration with tribal organizations, public, private, military providers, and key partners across the state to reduce health disparities and to help all individuals have equity in access to health care for HIV/STDs.
SCF is an Alaska Native-owned, nonprofit health care organization serving Alaska Native and American Indian people living in the Anchorage, Matanuska-Susitna Borough and 55 rural villages in the Anchorage Service Unit. SCF’s vision is a Native Community that enjoys physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness; its Mission is to work together with the Native Community to achieve wellness through health and related services.
This position provides 11 paid holidays, paid leave, and insurance benefits. This position will not be eligible for an alternate workweek schedule or hybrid telework option due to the need for in person collaboration and connection with the team and patients. ?
The working environment you can expect: Southcentral Foundation is located in east Anchorage and co-located with the Alaska Native Medical Center, Alaska Native Tribal Health, and other resources. The 7.5-hour day, typically 9-5pm M-F will take place in the office and in communities across the Anchorage/Mat Su area.
When working from the Anchorage state office, the building is located in the heart of mid-town Anchorage; situated with views of the Chugach Range, Denali, and the Cook Inlet on the 5th floor of the Frontier building (3601 C St. Anchorage, AK 99503). There is ample free covered parking and a modern building with a high level of building security offering vending machines for drinks/snacks.

Special Notice: - Requires some travel within the State (generally one trip up to 3 days of length, occurring once or twice a year). More frequent travel to the Anchorage office required, specifically for the training and onboarding of this position, and occasionally ongoing as needed, and frequent travel around the Anchorage/Mat-Su area for field investigations.
- Requires either experience in or willingness to learn phlebotomy skills for field testing.
- A valid Driver's License is required at the time of appointment.
