Job description

We are seeking a skilled Systems Administrator with a focus on DNS and SMTP to join our dynamic team. As a crucial member of our IT department, you will be responsible for:

1. DNS Management:

Process DNS change requests, including adding/removing forward and reverse DNS entries.
Manage DNS server configuration changes and zone delegations.
Troubleshoot downstream DNS server problems and collaborate with WAN and LAN administrators.
Utilize various scripting languages to generate DNS metrics, statistics, and reports.

2. SMTP Support:

Conduct e-mail traces for general troubleshooting.
Respond to abuse complaints and maintain SMTP logs.
Address inquiries regarding anti-virus and anti-spam behavior.
Respond to virus outbreaks and actively participate in maintenance activities.

3. Server Maintenance:

Track bugs and security vulnerabilities.
Apply software updates and maintain various server software.
Ensure the security and functionality of systems such as Cisco ESA, Infoblox DDI, Linux/UNIX software, Sendmail, Postfix, BIND, APACHE, and more.

4. Password Maintenance:

Change production administrative passwords monthly.
Encrypt and distribute monthly password lists securely.

5. Monitoring:

Respond to Solarwinds/network monitoring system notifications.
Maintain and configure Solarwinds/network monitoring settings and checks.

6. Architecture and Analysis:

Analyze the impact of MX record configuration on SMTP flow.
Evaluate the effect of anti-spam and anti-virus policies on SMTP flow.
Determine DNS best practices and maintain network and application layer diagrams.
Develop and maintain Disaster Recovery and Remote Management procedures.

7. Requirements:

6+ years of hands-on experience in Linux/Unix System Administration.
6+ years of TCP/IP networking experience.
6+ years of DNS and SMTP administration in an enterprise environment.
US Citizenship is mandatory.

8. Desired Skills:

Security-related certifications or training.
Proficiency in Microsoft Visio, Splunk, and Syslog.
Familiarity with common monitoring applications and protocols (e.g., Solarwinds, SNMP).
Experience with Cisco ESA/IronPort SMTP Appliances, Postfix, Sendmail, Microsoft Exchange, or Lotus Notes.
Knowledge of authentication and encryption management using SSH, PGP, and SSL.
Self-starter with experience in scripting languages such as Bourne Shell, C, AWK, Perl, Python, Expect, and TCL.

9. Personal Attributes:

Ability to organize and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Capability to work effectively with a diverse customer base.
