We’re seeking an experienced Zero Emission Vehicle Engineer or an Electrical Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving the development and implementation of Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Programs across the state of California. This position involves close collaboration with clients, utilities, municipalities, and project teams to assess the feasibility of EV charging infrastructure and identify incentives for sustainable and efficient energy programs.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in electric and alternative fuel vehicle technologies and contribute to other renewable, distributed energy resources, and non-traditional power generation technology programs our company offers.

Location: Carlsbad, CA OR Oakland, CA – Hybrid – Three days in office
Reports to: Director, Distributed Energy Resources
Salary Range: $85K-$110K (Staff Level, 3-5 yrs experience) OR $95K-$135K (Senior Level, 6-8 yrs experience)*
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interact with clients, utility personnel, contractors, and project stakeholders to assess the technical feasibility of energy projects and programs
- Perform field inspections of commercial sites to inventory and estimate usage of existing electrical equipment and determine electrical system capacity
- Conduct pre-design analysis for sizing/resizing existing building electrical system capacity to support electrification, electric vehicle charging, battery storage, and PV systems
- Research and identify available incentives and grants related to EV charging infrastructure at the local, state, and federal levels
- Work closely with clients to maximize available incentives and optimize project economics
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, utilities, and municipalities
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to address project requirements and ensure successful program implementation
- Support selection of electrical equipment at each site; communicate with vendors to determine equipment costing for each project.
- Conduct in-depth research, cost analysis and environmental impact on potential sites from field work, online research, demographic data and customer feedback and communication
- Write and present technical reports and recommendations based on findings
- Test managed charging, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and vehicle-to-building (V2B) scenarios
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in zero-emission vehicle technologies and emerging trends in the automotive industry including regulations and incentives programs
- May support other lines of business as an Engineer as needed
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus
- 3-5+ years’ experience in renewable energy specifically EV power systems.
- Senior level Engineering experience preferred (6-10yrs)
- Proven experience in the energy sector, with a focus on electric vehicle charging infrastructure
- Expert-level understanding of electrical and battery systems, energy management, and renewable energy technologies
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences
- Knowledge of local and national incentives and regulations related to EV infrastructure
- Advanced proficiency with MS Excel
- Advanced proficiency with various web platforms and computer and software programs
- Highly motivated, self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively, but also independently on a team
- Generally curious and interested in how things work with a passion for advancing the move to Zero Emissions by 2035
Schedule: M-F position with general office hours, typically 8am-5pm, though there can be some flexibility in start and stop times. Core hours are 9am-4pm. 40 hours per week is expected.
Remote capability: This position is hybrid and cannot be fully remote. We are looking for someone to work out of the Carlsbad, CA or Oakland, CA office location. We might also consider candidates in the Portland, OR area who would report to our Portland office location. During the discretionary training period, there may be more in-office time, up to 5 days per week. Once fully trained there may be some flexibility to work remotely so long as it doesn’t interfere with the general need of the business and/or exceeds more than 2 days per week. Per policy, 3 days per week in the office are currently required.
