Radiology RN

About The Job:

Delivers care to patients and families undergoing radiological procedures with needs ranging from basic to complex utilizing the nursing process. Creates a therapeutic environment for the pediatric and adult patient and their families undergoing diagnostic, interventional or therapeutic imaging procedures. Practices in a manner consistent with the Elliot Hospital Interprofessional Practice model; the ANA's Social Policy Statement, Scope and Standards of Practice, and the Nursing Code of Ethics, and the American Radiological Nurses Association under the general direction of the Director of Diagnostic Imaging and the direct supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager.

What You'll Do:

• Assists in diagnostic & interventional radiology procedures as well as diagnostic & interventional vascular procedures and interventional radiological procedures, including but not limited to angiography, angioplasty, and stent placement; biopsy procedures; fibroid removal; fluid and abscess drainage/aspiration, dialysis access insertions/removals/declotting, vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, line placements, tube insertions/changes, RF ablations, myelograms/discograms and venograms.
• Delivers care to the pediatric, adult or geriatric patient within scope of practice and competency undergoing a diagnostic imaging procedure, including but not limited to CT, fluoroscopy, nuclear med, MRI and ultrasound
• Assists with emergency procedures associated with radiology and vascular procedures.
• Follows established standards and practices under the direction of a credentialed radiologist, cardiologist, interventional radiologist or surgeon.
• Completes pre-procedure assessment based on patient/family interview, physical assessment and review of clinical data; communicates patient status and patient needs to physician and other team members as part of procedural process
• Recognizes emergencies and changes in patient's condition and seeks assistance as appropriate.
• Participates in the peri-procedure care of patients with complex problems/or undergoing complex invasive procedures.
• Demonstrates knowledge and competency in performance of procedures in the interventional radiology lab and recovery process; provides effective delivery of patient care pre, intra and post procedure care delivery.
• Demonstrates knowledge regarding use of medications including emergency drugs, critical care medications, moderate sedation, and reversal agents.
• Demonstrates knowledge of radiation safety and the use of contrast media
• Provides emotional support to patient/family by communicating effectively to decrease discomfort, anxiety and distress.
• Communicates appropriate patient information effectively and efficiently within the health care team and at each handoff/ care transition.
• Acts as a resource for students, team members, and colleagues within radiology as well as within other departments.
• Assists if needed in all areas of the radiology service line.
• Critical thinking and ability to effectively manage emergent patient situations
• Ability to work independently & take initiative in completing tasks
• Demonstrates superior customer service skills
• Ability to prioritize and manage a variety of tasks
• Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills

Who You Are:

• Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing strongly preferred
• Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of radiology experience required.
• Licensure: New Hampshire Registered Nurse or Compact State Registered Nurse License. BCLS, ACLS required. Nurses are expected to pursue professional certification upon eligibility or within three years of entering the specialty practice. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within one (1) year from date of hire.
• Software/Hardware: Ability to advance basic computer skills as the health system adds new systems or performs upgrades to existing systems.
• Schedule: Work schedule may include 8-12 hours per day in addition to On-call status for call coverage when the department is closed. May be required to assume assignments in other areas of radiology to meet patient needs.
