Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. Fort Knox celebrated its 25-year anniversary in 2021, and has produced over 9 million ounces since it began operation. In 2020, Kinross acquired Manh Choh – a project expected to commence production in 2024 and process ore at Fort Knox.

Job Description

Serve as the coordinating link between mines, local communities, and employees. Responsibilities include implementing external stakeholder engagement and communications plans, to include event coordination and meetings, and assist with the grant making processes. Responsible for promoting and protecting the reputation of Kinross through effective community relations, while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.

Job Responsibilities

1.    Assist in the development and implementation of corporate responsibility plans, to include the annual stakeholder engagement and communications plans.
2.    Support production of reports and presentations to internal and external stakeholders, including data compilation, writing, and proofreading.
3.    Solicit information from stakeholders, compile and maintain an Excel database and use this information to develop detailed and accurate reports.
4.    Coordinate special events, tours, and opportunities for positive exposure locally and statewide.
5.    Production of internal and external communication methods to include newsletters, social media, and public presentations. 
6.    Represent External Affairs; attend mine and community events as needed.
7.    Accurate and timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
8.    Adhere to Corporate Social Responsibility policies and principles.
9.    Maintain media and stakeholder contact lists.
10.    Promote employees to be ambassadors in their communities; responsible for recruiting and tracking employee volunteerism.
11.    Participate in program development activities.
12.    Submit and approve department invoices and track to ensure timely payment. 
13.    Attend local conventions and conferences as appropriate. 
14.    Develop educational outreach and relationships with local schools.
15.    Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with a diverse population of stakeholders.
16.    Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality, and code of conduct.
17.    Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
18.    Consistently exercise discretion and judgment in job performance.
19.    Prioritize safety and work without risk of harm to self and others.
20.    Possess a valid driver’s license issued by state agency or able to pass driver competency course and exam.
21.    Punctuality and regular attendance required.
22.    Perform other related functions as assigned by supervisor.
23.    Estimated travel is 15% based on current job requirements.

Education and Experience

  1. Degree in resource management, public relations, communications, or related field preferred.
  2. Experience in communications, public relations, resource management, and/or similar field preferred.

Skills

  1. Ability to work independently and as a member of the team.
  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  3. Ability to conduct research, develop reports, formulate objectives and strategies, and make professional presentations.
  4. Excellent computer skills to include spreadsheet and design. Advanced training available.
  5. Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization; proven ability to work with corporate management and keep the lines of communication open.
  6. Possess leadership and interpersonal skills with an ability to effectively interact with different types of community members and other stakeholders; must be able to keep the lines of communication open.
  7. Demonstrate exceptional administrative, organizational, and writing skills.
  8. Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.

This position reports to the External Affairs Supervisor
