Position Summary:

An ideal candidate will develop a high degree of knowledge and expertise regarding a broad array of financial aid and scholarship programs. This person provides a vital front-line linkage between the FASO and its clients and must have the interpersonal skills and mature judgment to be a positive force in the delivery of financial aid. The incumbent must possess the ability to work in a sometimes hectic and stressful environment in a calm and professional manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Student Eligibility

• Monitor federal and state regulations, announcements, distribution of training materials, updates to the Federal Student Aid Handbook and U.S. Department of Education Dear Colleague Letters and Electronic Announcements to ensure compliance with all oversight agencies.
• Determine individual student eligibility for federal, state, university and other aid programs in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, guidelines and other governing criteria.
• Assist in the development of financial aid policies and procedures.
• Manually package awards for students with special circumstances applying all applicable regulations, budgets and formulas ensuring the correct setup of the large amount of required data in the student systems.
• Serve as the technical and regulatory expert and resource for one or more state, institution, federal or private aid program.

Financial Aid Education

• Develop and gather materials for and represent NIU at student financial aid outreach programs for students, families, NIU departments and outside organizations. These sessions may include one on one counseling and public speaking for group presentations.
• Educate and advise family members and current and prospective students in-person, via email, and in virtual spaces regarding general
