Position Summary and Responsibilities The Post-Baccalaureate Museum Learning and Engagement Fellow plays a crucial role in the development and delivery of gallery teaching at the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, training and mentoring our student gallery guide team. They will also play a role in developing curricular and programmatic resources that leverage the museum's collection and exhibitions to enrich learning within a variety of subjects and levels. The Fellow will also provide administrative and program support to the Loeb's Learning and Community Engagement team. This is a two-year position with possible extension for an additional year, reporting directly to the Assistant Director for Learning and Community Engagement, with a target start date no later than July 2024.
Responsibilities: - Design and implement training for Loeb Gallery Guide team, comprised of Vassar College students from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. Training should support guides in developing both a toolkit of gallery teaching strategies for diverse audiences and a strong base of knowledge about the Loeb's collections and special exhibitions.
- Day-to-day supervision/mentoring of Gallery Guides during their on-site hours
- Lead or support gallery tours and other educational programming in the galleries
- Manage the tour/program calendar and respond to tour inquiries
- Develop resources and/or programming (for example, teacher professional development) that connect the Loeb's exhibitions and collections to PreK-12 curriculum and learning standards
- Support outreach to schools, community organizations, etc. including possible off-site programs
- Assist the Learning and Community Engagement team with programs and development of interpretive materials, as well as other project-related administrative tasks
- Other tasks as needed to support the work of the Learning and Community Engagement department
Qualifications - Bachelors degree in Art History, Art, Education, or a related field; applications welcome from those graduating any time through June 2024
- At least one year of teaching experience in an art museum or gallery setting
- Familiar with current practices and methodologies for teaching and learning in museums
- Enthusiastic about engaging with a wide array of topics outside personal areas of expertise
- Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Access, and Inclusion (DEAI) practices and principles, and to making art and museums accessible and welcoming to all
- Highly organized with excellent written and oral communication skills, and attention to detail
- Able to function in a fast-paced environment within a team
- Creative problem-solver who works proactively and collaboratively
- Comfortable with handling several projects simultaneously
- Sound judgment, discretion, and diplomacy
- Supervisory experience is a plus
- Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (or equivalent Google or Mac platforms) is required. Experience with TMS (The Museum System) and/or Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
