Job description

The Library Media Specialist promotes the philosophy and mission of Mount de Sales Academy through the implementation, coordination and oversight of library and educational technology services. The Library Media Specialist serves on the Technology Team, playing a critical role in the introduction of new learning technologies, support of the curriculum, and the teaching of information skills in ways that promote a love of learning. The Library Media Specialist in Mount de Sales Academy is expected to be a highly skilled professional person who works in close collaboration with the administration so that he/she may effectively fulfill the various roles that must be assumed during the course of the day. Mount de Sales Academy seeks to offer a high-quality program that is integrated with religious truths and values. The Library Media Specialist supports the basic beliefs, values and traditions of the Catholic Church in communications, personal demeanor and lifestyle. The Library Media Specialist is expected to model Gospel values in his or her spirit of service and dealings with other colleagues. Respect for the dignity of each person is of utmost importance. Duties and Responsibilities The duties below are typically performed by an employee in this classification. However, an employee may not be assigned all duties or may be assigned other related duties not listed. Oversee and manage the online lending library database, the check-out and return of books at the circulation desk, and overdue notices. Create a library space that is user-centered, accessible, and organized. Promote the ethical use of information by evaluating existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning within a school setting. Communicate and provide basic training to orient users to library materials, equipment, research tools, and educational technology platforms. As a member of the Technology Team, provide basic troubleshooting assistance to students, staff, and faculty for issues related to devices and software. Oversee printing and loaner tablet services in the Library Media Center. Assist Technology Team in software and hardware evaluation. Understand copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property, and assist users with their understanding and observance of the same. Coordinate Library programming and collection review with the Vice Principal of Academics and administration. Promote a love of reading and lifelong learning. Schedule, coordinate, plan and/or execute special Library events during the school year. Supervise students in the Library Media Center and implement school policies related to conduct and technology usage. Complete required reports and materials as requested by the administration in matters pertaining to the library/media center and edtech usage. Inventory, review, recommend, and order books and edtech resources. Maintain oversight of Library Media Center expenses/purchases throughout the school year and prepares and submits to the business office an annual Library budget for review. Attend faculty meetings and Technology Team meetings. Implement best practices by pursuing continuing education and professional growth activities to remain current in professional practices, information technologies, and educational research. Cooperate and network with other libraries, librarians, and agencies to provide access to resources outside the school. Comply with all requests that fall within generally accepted librarian/edtech specialist responsibility. Skills/ Attributes Commitment to the mission and vision of Catholic education in general and Mount de Sales Academy in particular. Working knowledge of online resources and database systems. Ability to learn new software and assess its ability to integrate with the school's existing educational resources. Excellent organizational skills and ability to coordinate, prioritize, and analyze several ongoing projects simultaneously. Ability to work in a kind, professional, and collegial manner with the faculty, staff, students, and parents, maintaining discretion and confidentiality. Punctuality and adherence to schedules. Ability to remain calm and focused amid multiple demands. Professional Qualifications Holds a degree in Library Science and/or Educational Technology. Certified or working toward certification as a school librarian or EdTech specialist. Possesses computer knowledge and skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, library management systems, digital databases, edtech resources, and/or learning management platforms. Preferably Catholic: has a good understanding of the Church's moral teaching, seeking to share the true, good, and beautiful through literary works.
