Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking an entry level Landscape Designer to join our Downtown Overland Park, KS office location. In this entry level to 3-years of experience position you will develop technical skills and assist the project team with drawings and drafting in the creative design process. Being creative and detail oriented, you will create design documents, together with conceptual and final designs, renderings, master plans, and construction documents. You will have the opportunity to work on public and private projects locally, nationally, and internationally across a range of scales and uses including civic spaces, streetscapes, outdoor recreation venues, parks, residential, and institutional developments, and more. You will build new relationships with some of our more than 250 landscape architects’ firm wide, be mentored under experienced landscape architects, and work in a casual environment with clients and teams through all phases of design.
Your Key Responsibilities
Assist the project team in site analysis, site planning, conceptual design, final design, and preparation of construction plans for a variety of landscape architecture project types, as well as participate in creation of 3D graphics and technical documents.
Use knowledge of the general concepts of landscape design including site analysis, project theming, schematic design, and design development.
Assist the project team with the preparation of project documentation during all phases of design, such as project graphics and exhibits, site grading, paving designs, walls, structures, site lighting, planting design, and construction observation.
Develop technical skills and assists the project team with drawings and drafting in the creative design process.
Support construction administration on projects by attending site visits and/or construction meetings and assisting in preparing sketches or drawing revisions and photography.
Assist in the development of a design through hand graphic sketches, electronic models, diagrams, video flythroughs, and other visual formats.
Perform due diligence and research on projects as required to provide the background information to start new projects.
Develop software skills utilizing relevant programs to assist with preparation of simple exhibits to complex working drawings.
Participate in college recruiting and relations.
Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Excellent design, graphic, computer, written, and verbal communication skills.
Understanding and knowledge of Midwest plant materials.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Land-FX, SketchUp, Lumion, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office. Familiarity with Lumion, Enscape, Rhino, Revit, and Unreal Engine a bonus.
Proficient hand drafting and sketching abilities resulting in strong conceptual designs.
Highly motivated and passionate about design, possesses strong time management, critical thinking, organizational skills, and has the ability to multitask.
Comfortable working within a team environment, as well as being productive independently with limited supervision.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in landscape architecture from an accredited program.
Minimum of 0-3 years of experience.
Typical casual office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for periods of time. Our Studio is located in the heart of downtown Overland, Park, Kansas.
