Job description
Description
The Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment (SAGE) Team at NASA Langley Research Center is seeking post-doctoral candidates who will focus on science topics associated with SAGE III‘ ¹s flight aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and on defining the next generation solar occultation instrumentation. The SAGE series of instruments have provided a unique data set that is crucial to understanding ozone trends and changes to stratospheric aerosol. SAGE III/ISS was installed on ISS on March 8 2017 after a successful launch on February 19, 2017. The project has started the science data collection activities, including multispectral solar and lunar occultation data as well as limb scattering data. Proposals related to the application of this data to timely science topics are solicited. In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in studies of potential future instrument configurations that include forward modeling and simulated retrievals of gas and aerosol properties. The candidate can also interact with NASA Langley engineering support to facilitate the design process for future occultation instruments. Proposals related to the development of advanced techniques for retrieving and analyzing atmospheric data from space-based remote-sensing instruments relevant to future or past members of the SAGE instrument series are also welcome.
