Research Associate

Position Function
The individual oversees our laboratory (general management), conducts laboratory research and analyses such as soil extractable ammonium, nitrate and phosphate, Illinois Soil Nitrogen Test-N (ISNT-N), soil respiration, greenhouse gas emissions (N2O, CH4, CO2), cation exchange capacity (CEC), active carbon, organic matter, total N, total C, general soil fertility as part of projects on greenhouse gas emissions and soil chemical, physical and microbial health as impacted by field crop management, and rainfall simulation studies. Evaluate different manure sources, ground coverage and soil types on phosphorus and nitrogen loss through runoff and percolation. This individual will be in regular communication with the PI to provide updates, problem-solve, and plan for future research activities. Develop and amend protocols and procedures for research studies. Submit protocols and develop and manage budgets and reports for funding agencies. Write conference abstracts and present research at conferences. Contribute to peer reviewed manuscripts for scientific journals.
Anticipated Division of Time
Contribute to the design and implementation of soil fertility management for field crops
research projects.

The position includes helping undergraduate, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers with analytical aspects of their projects, teaching them how to conduct analyses and ensuring proper laboratory safety and quality control measures. The position will be supervised by Quirine M. Ketterings, Professor in the Department of Animal Science.

Pay Range:
$49,100.00 - $94,700.00Pay Ranges:
The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:
Prior relevant work or industry experience.
Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
