Maintenance Worker Department of Campus Recreation Job Summary The Maintenance Worker is responsible for the continued development and maintenance of Campus Recreation grounds (playfields and common ground areas).
Duties & Responsibilities - Maintenance (35%)
Assist in the implementation of a comprehensive maintenance program, which includes mowing, fertilizer application, chemical application, aeration, seeding, irrigation system operation and maintenance and other landscape-related duties as needed for Campus Recreation areas; attend manufacturer equipment maintenance training when provided. - Mowing and Trimming (30%)
Responsible for mowing and trimming assigned areas. - Equipment Repair (15%)
Perform maintenance and repair of equipment used on play surfaces and common ground areas; responsible for making Campus Recreation play surfaces accessible (locking/unlocking gates). - Special Projects (5%)
All other duties as assigned, including assistance with other Campus Recreation departments, and special projects.
Additional Physical Demands Physical Requirements
- Regular lifting of heavy objects such as 5-gallon paint buckets, 50-pound bags of seed or fertilizer, etc.
- Operation of various equipment for extended periods of time
- Perform routine manual work: walking, digging, raking, etc.
- Adhere to proper safety practices. Work Environment
- Most of work is performed outside in inclement weather during three seasons of the year.
- May be exposed to heat, dust, excessive noise, humidity, wind, rain, and snow. Travel Requirements

Minimum Qualifications 1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. One (1) year (12 months) of work experience in general maintenance. Preferred Qualifications (1) At least one-year of prior experience with grounds operations.
(2) Previous experience in maintenance and mechanical equipment repair
(3) Knowledge of grounds maintenance practices and equipment usage related to athletic field maintenance.
(4) Knowledge of landscape methods, materials, and design. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of general maintenance work.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repairs of houses, buildings, or other structures.
- Skill in performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 4257 - Maintenance Worker position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible.
