Scanlan Center for School Mental Health Clinic

Postdoctoral Scholar

Position Summary and Duties:

The Scanlan Center for School Mental Health (SCSMH) Clinic is seeking candidates for a one-year postdoctoral scholar position in the field of psychology. The primary responsibilities for this position include contributing to the mission of the SCSMH clinic through the delivery of clinical services to Iowa K-12 students and educators. Primary services include short-term individual and group counseling services delivered primarily via telehealth, post-crisis debriefing and response in schools, initial consultation/intake evaluations, and resource and referral services. The postdoctoral scholar will have the opportunity to complete Iowa's Board of Psychology licensure requirements for supervised clinical experiences as a component of this appointment.

The SCSMH offers a multidisciplinary training clinic to University of Iowa students seeking careers in school mental health, including in the disciplines of school psychology, counseling psychology, social work, and counselor education. The postdoctoral scholar would have opportunities to provide individual supervision to practicum students, engage in multidisciplinary case consultation and group supervision, and contribute to didactic learning opportunities offered within the training clinic. Additionally, the postdoctoral scholar would have opportunities for community engagement and outreach through presentations delivered on behalf of the SCSMH Clinic.

The SCSMH Clinic is committed to delivery and training of evidence-based practices. Opportunities for engaging in program development, program evaluation, research, and professional development may be available.

Appointment: Appointment starting between August 1, 2024, and September 1, 2024, and continuing for 12 months.

Screening : Applications will be reviewed and interviews will be scheduled on a rolling basis. We will honor the APPIC Common Hold Date (CHD) of February 26, 2024.

About the Scanlan Center for School Mental Health :

The Scanlan Center for School Mental Health is a partnership between the University of Iowa and the Iowa Department of Education with initial funding of $20 million to address mental health needs in Iowa schools. The Center will expand support for mental health prevention and treatment to Pre-K-12 students and educators in schools across the state. This includes training, resources, and outreach to support student mental health so all students, educators, and schools can be successful and resilient. Located in the UI College of Education, the center bridges disciplines across campus to provide a network of expertise in education, public health, nursing, psychology, psychiatry, social work, and counseling that improves mental health outcomes. This is Iowa's first state-wide center supporting mental health in our schools.
