What You Will Do


The Physical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy group (C-PCS) is seeking outstanding candidates with extensive polymer chemistry, spectroscopy, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related laboratory experience to support ongoing R&D efforts in medical countermeasure development. The successful candidate will engage in multi-disciplinary research focused on the use of spectroscopy to develop novel vaccine, therapeutic, and diagnostic strategies.


This position typically requires a skilled polymer chemist, chemical engineer, biomedical engineer, or biochemist that applies a broad basis of existing theories and principles to conduct R&D in a multidisciplinary environment to support existing projects. Candidates are expected to produce new technical experimental data, report on progress to sponsors, contribute to the completion of milestones on multiple focus areas/projects, and present at national and international conferences. This position typically requires conducting and providing supervision for postdocs, students, and technicians on experimental planning and safe conduct of operations. This position also requires participation and assisting others in external technical activities such as organizing workshops, and participation in peer reviews. The successful candidate will support activities in several current projects including development of novel detection and diagnostic strategies, physical characterization of host-pathogen interaction, and biocompatible polymer chemistry. #chemistry, #cpcs, #chemscientist



What You Need



Minimum Job Requirements:



Education/Experience: A Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of related experience in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field. A Ph.D. is preferred, and post-doctoral research experience at a university or national lab directly related to the occupation.

Location: This is a full-time position on-site in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.



Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.



Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
