Job Description

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking a Psychiatrist to join the team at the Glenwood Resource Center (GRC) which offers a continuum of care to Iowans experiencing intellectual disabilities. This is a full-time position with an 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. schedule and on call duties.

This position provides comprehensive psychiatric care to individuals at the Glenwood Resource Center, including completing new intake evaluations, yearly updates, quarterly psychiatric review, and addressing ongoing psychiatric needs. The Psychiatrist reviews and prescribes psychotropic medications as needed and provides service for crisis situations with a mental health component. Along with other responsibilities and duties, this position participates in various assemblies such as doctor's meetings, pharmacy and therapeutics conferences, and Psychiatric Peer Review. GRC's Psychiatrist works collaboratively as part of the health care team which includes Nurses, CNAs, Psychologists, Nurse Practitioners, and other Physicians to provide consensus within the treatment plan.


The Psychiatrist must be a licensed Physician in the State of Iowa and Board Certified or eligible in Psychiatry.


Employees are eligible for a $1,500 retention payment for a commitment of 7 pay periods (14 weeks) and are eligible for renewal at the end of each 7 pay periods until the facility closes. Speak to the hiring manager for more information on eligibility.

Located in southwest Iowa, GRC provides residential services for individuals who have struggled to be successful in the community, gives in-home support for those who transition to the community, and assists community-based providers by providing assessments, training, and other technical support. The goal of all GRC services is to help individuals be successful in their communities.

Minimum Qualification Requirements


Graduation from an accredited school of medicine, completion of an internship program and licensure as a physician by the State of Iowa.
