We are looking for a talented professional to join the team in one of our Northwest offices (Portland, Bend, or Boise). The focus of this position is designing transportation roadway and drainage engineering projects that range from road/street segments and intersection concepts to final design including the development of bid-ready construction documents.
Position Summary
As a mid-level engineer, the Transportation Drainage Engineerwill be primarily responsible for:
- Stormwater engineering, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, grading, and design services for transportation/roadways improvement projects;
- Studying and designing stormwater management facilities including storm sewers and green stormwater infrastructure;
- Understanding regional stormwater regulations and stormwater design manuals;
- Applying best management practices (BMPs) for water quality and quantity treatment;
- Writing reports and technical memorandums;
- Assisting with business development activities,
- Conducting quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) review of project deliverables,
- Developing scope, budget, and schedule for projects, as well as providing internal project management and coordination,
- Coordinating with public agency staff, private consultants, stakeholder outreach teams, and other disciplines for project delivery, and
- Providing on-the-job training through coaching and mentoring to junior-level staff.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
- 5 or more years of transportation and drainage engineering design that includes increasing responsibility in the preparation of reports, plans, specifications and special provisions, and engineering & construction estimates for multidiscipline roadway design projects.
- Familiarity with ODOT Hydraulics Manual and Army Corps of Engineers Slopes V standards.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Oregon or Idaho, or the ability to obtain it within six months.
- Past experience in internal task management, with a track record of organizing and training junior-level staff on project components.
- Software: High degree of functionality in Microstation/InRoads/OpenRoads and/or AutoCAD/Civil3D and hydraulic modeling software (i.e., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, or XPSWMM).
- Track-record of coordinating effectively with public agency staff and teaming partners on multidiscipline engineering project teams for project delivery.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in roadway and/or traffic design.
- Familiarity with the procedures and methodologies published in major national guidelines (e.g., American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials [AASHTO] and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices [MUTCD]) and department of transportation design standards and guidelines.
- Familiarity with Oregon, Washington, and/or Idaho stormwater manuals – both state and local
- Experience as a field engineer/inspector on public infrastructure projects.
- Confidence in public speaking before audiences of laypersons, stakeholders, teaming partners, and owners.
Compensation and Benefits

Base salary plus retirement range for this position (place in range determined by candidate’s experience and location): $80,000 to $120,000
