Job description
Avid4 Adventure, voted multiple times to Outside Magazine's Best Places to Work list , is hiring a Climb Specialist for our summer day camps in the South Bay area (Cupertino and Menlo Park). You will become part of a team of outdoor professionals who receive support and mentorship from our camp leaders, grow their teaching skills, and enjoy a community of peers who live the values our camps teach.
Core Responsibilities:
- Summer Day Camp Rock Climbing Instructors (aka Climb Specialists) co-lead groups of up to 13 campers in age-and developmentally- appropriate instructions in rock climbing, Leave No Trace principles, and team building.
- Set up and manage the logistics and safety of top-rope sites.
- Co-lead day trips to multiple climbing sites.
- Make risk management decisions daily.
- Provide exceptional customer service to parents and all participants in our programs.
- Thoroughly understand emergency action plans and help implement procedures if necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of equipment, and report any damages to Camp Director.
- Maintain excellent communication between campers, parents, and staff.
Job Requirements:
- Significant experience with outdoor rock climbing with the ability to set trad rock climbing anchors and oversee the climb site.
- Participation in Avid4 Adventure's in-house climb specialist assessment is mandatory.
- Minimum of Basic/Community First Aid & CPR prior to the start of camp.
- At least 21 years of age by the start of camp.
- High levels of organization, communication, and judgment.
- Experience working with school-aged kids through volunteering, school, babysitting, camp counselor experience, tutoring, etc.
Important Dates:
- Job dates: Training starts in late May/early June, depending on the state in which you will work. Camps run through mid-August
- Work week : Monday - Friday, about 40 hours/week
