Job Summary
Greet and assist prospective and current students, staff, visitors, and the general public by disseminating information concerning educational offerings, college policies and procedures, DMACC webpage navigation, community resources available to support students, events and activities. Maintain a database of community resource offerings. Communicate those offerings directly to students in need.
Essential Functions
Receive and transfer calls received. Greet students visiting Urban SSO. Update message lines as needed and act as liaison between DMACC and the phone system.
Provide and distribute general college information, college procedures and policies, events etc. to students, staff, and general public in person, on the telephone and by mail and email.
Maintain calendars for the counseling/advising/enrollment/financial aid staff; input data for department reports and communication plan
Maintain a database of community resources available to students. Disseminate that information to student services team as needed. Engage students who have difficult, complex, and complicated circumstances that affect their ability to enroll, attend, finance, and complete their education. Engage students who are under-represented in higher education including low-income, first-generation, students from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, English Language Learners, adult learners, LGBTQIA+, and international students in all phases of career and academic planning, including admission, orientation, academic advising, and FAFSA/financial aid opportunities. Make referrals to DMACC and community mental health, medical/wellness, and financial support services. Collaborate with campus mental health counselors and advisors on case management.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Two years of general office experience, which included or was supplemented by significant public contact and telephone work.(Postsecondary education may substitute for up to 1 year required experience with 15 semester hours equivalent to 6 months of experience.)
Experience providing exemplary customer service to clients in a stressful and fast paced environment while maintaining confidentiality.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to plan, organize and manage time and the commitment to follow through.
Excellent problem solving skills
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain professional working relationship with a wide variety of individuals coming form different background.
Knowledge of current software applications.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in social work or human services.
Experience in post-secondary degree
Experience in a post secondary educational institution, particularly in financial aid. student accounts, admissions, or student affairs.
Demonstrated advocacy for students/clients and their needs.
Ability to speak a language other than English.
Work Schedule
12:00 p.m.– 5:00 p.m. or 1:00p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
