The Associate Cloud Architect supports change advocacy for cloud adoption. Contributes to discussions relative to future cloud architecture direction. Supports cloud computing efforts and strategizes and is able to communicate pros and cons objectively. Supports the executive vision for cloud and participates in aspects of cloud adoption and governance processes. Supports the development of a cloud strategy and adoption. Support the architectural vision for cloud across business and technical dimensions. Deploys cloud reference architecture. Supports aspects of cloud brokering and governance across some aspects of IT and the business. Collaborates with engineers, business stakeholders, security, legal, and finance departments regarding cloud decisions and direction. Builds strong relationships across some specific areas of the organization, specifically with functional architects in each area, to influence them towards making changes necessary for cloud. Supports the design and build of cloud initiatives on multiple fronts. Supports the processes by which IT and business staff choose cloud computing as the deployment model for different applications and use cases, including the reasons why some applications should use cloud computing and others shouldn’t. Understands the criteria for evaluating, comparing, and selecting cloud providers. Supports the procurement processes to assess vendor / provider viability and risk. Supports the determination and standardization of strategic investments to the rest of the organization. Supports best practices for cloud system design, infrastructure integrations, application development practices and application runtime principles. Contributes to a risk-mitigation-mapping matrix for dealing with and overcoming common cloud risks and pitfalls, including a cloud exit strategy for each provider or application. Supports the determination of the most appropriate financial models for each cloud service that the organization procures. Support the determination, refinement, and review of costing estimates, total cost of ownership (TCO) and funding source. Supports cloud decision models. Supports cloud governance, including guidelines, policies, and guardrails, in collaboration with Enterprise Architects and/or the ARB. Supports comprehensive enterprise management processes, tools, integrations, and procedures to run the cloud systems, including other critical IT stakeholders in the design process. Manages the cloud change control process. Supports the correlation of cloud costs to business KPIs to manage spending in respect to the organization’s return on investment (ROI). Supports cost optimization by monitoring utilization and capacity metrics. Supports spend accountability towards cloud consumers, and provides them with resources to create forecasts, monitor costs and pursue optimization opportunities.
QualificationsBachelor’s degree with 5 years’ experience with 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience, or Associate’s degree with 7 years’ experience with 1 year demonstrated leadership experience, or HS/GED with 9 years of experience in a large, complex organization like Mayo Clinic may be considered in lieu of the degree.Applies intermediate knowledge of a particular field of specialization to the completion of moderately complex assignments. Involved in multiple small to medium sized projects. Serves as an individual contributor and acts as a consultant to peers. Functions with a moderate degree of autonomy; requires some supervision and guidance. Works as a lead or internal consultant.
Demonstrated knowledge of cloud management platforms preferred. Ability to negotiate to reach agreements on issues of strategic importance where there may be widely conflicting goals or perspectives. Ability to build collaborative working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders. Ability to influence senior level management and key stakeholders. Solid understanding of strategic and new and emerging technology trends, and the practical application of existing, new, and emerging technologies to new and evolving business and operating models. Familiarity with service design and pricing in the context of cloud-based solutioning preferred. Certification in cloud engineering is required within 12-24 months.Preferred candidate would have:
