Job description

We are looking for a Primary Care Physician who is attentive, conscientious candidate with training in diverse medical areas to join our rapidly expanding clinic in Decatur, Illinois.  This is an opportunity to work in a newly Certified Community Behavioral Health Center within a team of professionals who are passionate about improving the physical health of individuals with a serious mental illness or substance use diagnosis who are in our care.  

Services are provided in person (face-to-face) in an outpatient setting, treating a wide range of medical conditions.  This includes, but is not limited to:  providing and/or overseeing medical services, diagnosis, evaluation, medical screening, physical examinations, treatment planning, and overall treatment of patients receiving substance use and methadone treatment services.   The successful candidate will be able to develop long-term personal relationships, produce individualized healthcare plans based on a patient’s historical data, and offer continuous support.   The Physician will have a vested interest in a patient’s well-being, which is achieved by demonstrating good listening skills, showing empathy and understanding, and communicating clearly and effectively.   

The Physician is supported by Advanced Practice Providers, Registered Nurses, and Licensed Practical Nurses, as well administrative/clerical support.  

Decatur is located in Central Illinois – within 3 hours of the Chicago and St. Louis areas – and offers a moderate cost of living environment.  

Responsibilities

• Develop personal relationships with patients
• Create patient-specific plans that make use of historical data
• Monitor and adapt individualized health plan over time
• Educating patients in health management and disease prevention
• Maintain adequate, concise and legible documentation of client care within established timeframes in a computerized electronic clinical record. 

Job Requirements

• Current MD or DO licensure in the State of Illinois
• Current Department of Justice Controlled Substance Licensure 
• Board certified (or Board eligible) in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
• Substance Use Specialty (or the willingness to obtain certification within 1 year)
• Working knowledge of the disease of addiction
• Ability to obtain hospital privileges at Decatur Memorial Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur
• Knowledge of medical resources available in Macon and DeWitt Counties
• Ability to relate to economically disadvantaged and minority populations
• Excellent written and communication skills
• Caring attentive nature
• Good interpersonal skills
