Job Title: Coordinator of Assistive Technology
Location: Student Support Services
Pay Grade: Administrative and Professional Scale Grade A06
Work Calendar All 12 Month Staff
FLSA Status: Exempt
GENERAL PURPOSE Under the supervision of the Director of Special Education, this position is the School Division's primary advocate for the integration of technology into everyday teaching and learning. The Coordinator assists in the identification and evaluation of appropriate resources that complement and advance the schools' instructional programs, and provides professional development opportunities.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provides leadership in staff development for the integration of instructional technology into the curriculum
- Provides assistance to individual teachers and administrators, schools, departments, etc., in areas related to the effective use of various assistive technologies.
- Cooperates with other instructional leaders to determine appropriate use of assistive technology for instruction at the various levels and subject areas.
- Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the Division's Integrated Technology Plan and facilitates the implementation, as required, of individual school technology plans.
- Develops and coordinates the School Division's Assistive Technology Professional Development Plan.
- Assists with the preparation of a budget to purchase technology resources, and facilitate the procurement of selected items and provides leadership to the acquisition of appropriate grants.
- Represents the Division's assistive technology program to the general public at professional conferences, workshops and other presentations.
- Reviews and evaluates new commercial assistive technology software and ancillary materials, as they become available and communicates such evaluations to the instructional leaders of the Division via the Executive Director of Instructional Technology and Information Services.
- Reviews and evaluates new commercial assistive technology/media hardware as it is developed and communicates such evaluations to the instructional leaders of the Division via the Executive Director of Instructional Technology and Information Services.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - Bachelor's degree in Assistive Technology or certificate preferred.
- Hold or be eligible for a valid Virginia Teaching License.
- Two (2) years of experience in special education instruction.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Knowledge
- Special education process and current legal mandates, as related to special education.
- Skills
- Leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers and parents.
- Appropriate use of written and verbal communication, thorough knowledge of English grammar, usage and spelling.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Work environment is primarily inside, with moderate noise, temperatures that are controlled, and no exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
- The work is moderate work, requiring exertion of up to 50 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
