Description
We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Public Clinic Veterinarian to join our team in Sanford. As a Clinic Veterinarian, you will be responsible for providing professional general wellness care and management to dogs and cats, as well as educating pet owners on how to keep their pets healthy.
This position is full-time Monday - Friday.
Our clinic is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8am - 5pm and Wednesdays from 8am-12pm.
Responsibilities: - Perform physical exam and assessment of pets and provide tests, inoculations, and other general medical care as appropriate and necessary.
- Treat the minor injuries and illnesses of pets and other animals with a variety of medical equipment, including surgical tools and x-ray and ultrasound machines.
- Provide client education to support keeping pets healthy in the community.
- In cooperation with the entire veterinary team, establish and maintain effective disease prevention, control and management programs and services for pets.
- Maintain accurate medical records including but not limited to patient charting, drug logs and drug and equipment usage.
- Provide input into the performance of designated staff to help maintain a high functioning team for excellent customer service.
- Provide guidance and support for continuing education programs for designated staff.
- Support the department's safety program and follows all safety guidelines including safety efforts as they relate to zoonotic diseases, veterinary drugs, cleaning and disinfecting agents, chemicals, restraint and handling of animals, and a safe work environment.
- Perform humane euthanasia for pet owners, as necessary.
- Promote humane attitudes towards care and treatment of animals through education and example.
- Promote sterilization of owned animal in effort to reduce pet-overpopulation.
- Perform any other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the organization.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS: - Must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited institution
- Must have a valid DEA License
- Must have a Florida veterinary license in good standing
- Must have at least two years of experience in a veterinary clinic or hospital setting
- Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Must have excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY: - Highly motivated toward the welfare and humane treatment of all animals
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a compassionate attitude in providing humane veterinary care for animals
- Demonstrated knowledge of animal health and disease care and treatment
- Demonstrated ability to analyze clinic sanitation and disease prevention problems and to make qualified recommendations
- Demonstrated ability to work in team environment
- Demonstrated experience in dealing and communicating effectively and tactfully
- Ability to assist staff in better understanding and performing lab, medical & surgical procedures
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS: - The physical demands of the job require extensive standing, performing surgeries for a number of consecutive hours each shift; walking and bending for extended periods of time; lifting requirements up to approximately 25 pounds
- Must be able to successfully handle both routine and difficult interpersonal contacts and make rapid, well-thought out, independent decisions
- Must be able to teach lab, medical and surgical equipment and procedures to staff, as needed
- Must be able to comfortably handle guidance from multiple sources, e.g., Executive Director or Director of Operations
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment where constructive feedback is encouraged.
WORKING CONDITIONS: - Most work is performed in the medical areas at the Pet Alliance clinic. These are open and well-lighted, adequately ventilated, but somewhat noisy environments.
- Must be available and willing to travel to such locations and with such frequency as the Pet Alliance determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
- Job requires frequent and routinely intense public contact as well as the ability to multi-task under conditions that can be described as extremely fast paced and frequently potentially stressful.
