The McElrone lab with USDA-ARS and Viticulture & Enology at UC Davis is recruiting a post doctoral scholar for a crop sensing project that utilizes a novel infrared-based sensing system to simultaneously detect crop water use and stress for woody perennial crops. The scholar would help to further develop this tool for integration into precision irrigation management platform that interfaces with ET data from satellites and drones. Work will be conducted in collaboration with other USDA-ARS (including the new SAWS unit) and UC Davis labs. Work will be performed in lab and various field settings including experimental plots on the UC Davis campus and in commercial vineyards and orchards associated with the GRAPEX and T-REX projects. We aim to develop this method as an inexpensive and readily available tool, and efforts will include direct and frequent interaction with various stakeholder partners.
