Job Description
NAU Dining Maintenance is a part of Campus Services and Activities and supports over 30 dining locations on the NAU campus as well as the High-Country Conference Center. This position reports to the Commercial Kitchen Maintenance Supervisor and is a part-time, non-benefit eligible position.
Repairs, Replaces, & Installs Equipment - 40%
• Assist the dining maintenance team in repairs or replaces equipment in commercial kitchens and retail food service units on campus with special consideration for projects involving food grade surface repair.
• Uses knowledge of refrigeration, electrical/electronic circuits, low pressure steam, natural and LP gas, plumbing/water quality, and ventilation theory as well as local and national health regulations to prioritize tasks.
Paint and Food Grade Surface Repair - 40%
• Mixes, matches, and applies paints and other finishes to various surfaces.
• Food grade surface repair, basic tile repair, sealant application, or general paint application.
Special Event Support - 10%
• Provides food service equipment set-up including but not limited to temporary electricity, water, cooking gas, lighting, refrigeration, mobile food service units, and sanitation stations as requested by Campus Services operations staff at various indoor and outdoor locations across campus.
Safety - 5%
• Maintain manufacturer repair certifications, county health code awareness, and certification in appropriate OSHA standards.
• Maintain inventory and proper maintenance of tools and instrumentation including proper disposal of unusable paints, sealants, or caulking.
Other - 5%
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• 2 years of maintenance and repair experience in the dining service or commercial kitchen field.
• Must have Valid drivers license.
• Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with installation and maintenance of commercial refrigeration systems.
• Experience with low-voltage and control system electronics related to refrigeration.
• Experience with kitchen exhaust systems and make-up air system.
• Knowledge of generally accepted health code requirements as related to site conditions and equipment in kitchens and serving areas (Coconino County preferred).
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
• Knowledge of a wide range of finish and sealant application techniques.
• Knowledge of proper installation procedure for solid surface and stainless counters and equipment.
• Knowledge of plumbing installation and repair procedures and practice.
• Knowledge of electrical theory, safety, and practice.
• Knowledge of commercial refrigeration theory and practice.
• Ability to effectively communicate.
• Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
• Basic computer and documentation skills.
Driving Requirement
Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver's license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. Salary
Wage: $19 per hour.
FLSA Status
This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The incumbent is eligible for overtime pay or compensatory time according to University policy. Further, the employee must submit timesheets that accurately reflect all hours worked.
