Are you passionate about public health microbiology and molecular diagnostics? Do you want to lead a team of experts and oversee a state-of-the-art laboratory? If so, you might be the perfect candidate for the Public Health Microbiologist 2 position at the Fairbanks State Virology Lab.


As a Public Health Microbiologist 2, you will be responsible for the molecular diagnostics, sequencing, and rabies necropsy and diagnostics within the lab. You will also ensure quality control and assurance and supervise the staff in this specialty area. In addition, you will conduct advanced investigations that require you to apply, develop, adapt, and modify methods, procedures, and techniques to discover and interpret the scientific implications of public health microbiology.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:


equivalent to those typically gained by:


Bachelor of Science degree or higher from an accredited college in Medical Technology, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Biological Science, or Chemistry, with training and/or course work in Medical/Clinical Laboratory Sciences;
AND
Progressively responsible professional microbiologist experience in a clinical or hospital laboratory.



Special Note:
Positions in this class may require a background investigation. Applies only to work covered under the Public Health Security and Bio-terrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002 or other relevant state or federal law.


Positions in this class require the incumbent to be immunized against infectious diseases.
