General Summary : Middlesex Community College is seeking a creative and knowledgeable part-time Student Engagement Specialist to work as a member of the Office of Student Engagement team. The Student Engagement Specialist will provide support and retention services, develop and assess campus programming that supports student success for the general student body, and specifically, the Black/African American, Latinx, International and other underserved populations. The Student Engagement Specialist will also coordinate, lead, facilitate and assess programs that enhance leadership, student engagement and success.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Provides support services and campus programming for the general student body, Latinx, Black/African American, and other underserved student populations.
- Coordinates and assesses effectiveness of student engagement and retention programs for diverse student groups.
- Coordinates and facilitates programs that enhance leadership, student engagement and success.
- Develops, plans and implements recruitment activities to increase student participation in the Office Student Engagement, the Multicultural Center, Success Scholars Program, TRiO, PAASA, and other college-wide programs and opportunities.
- Mentors and Coaches students to support their personal growth, college involvement and academic success by exchanging ideas and sharing experiences and knowledge.
- Promotes student advocacy to foster a campus environment where every students' identity and issues are affirmed and supported.
- Assists in the planning and implementation of co-curricular multicultural programs that support our diverse students and promotes greater understanding and appreciation for diversity on both the Bedford and Lowell campuses.
- Collaborates with faculty and staff in other MCC departments including the Admissions, Advising, Registration, Financial Aid, and the Office of Student Engagement.
- Attends professional workshops and conferences and participates in appropriate continuing education programs in order to maintain professional knowledge in applicable areas.
- Assumes other appropriate responsibilities as assigned
Job Requirements: - A Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, human services, behavioral health, or related field
- Experience or higher education experience in an area such as student activities or multicultural programs.
- Experience and/or training involving college admissions, academic advisement, career development, or program/project management; or an equivalent combination of education, training, with an emphasis on supporting Latinx or Black/African American populations
- Previous experience working with students and clients of underserved backgrounds in higher education.
- Evidence of the ability to learn quickly, and to demonstrate excellent administrative and organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including listening skills
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability in the use of databases and other computer-based technologies
- Ability to establish and nurture strong relationships with faculty, students and colleagues
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and goals
- Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in higher education, counseling, human services, Behavioral health or closely related field
- Bilingual skills a plus
- Demonstrated passion for working with multicultural populations.
- Experience with TRiO or other Student Support Services programs
- Experience with designing/implementing retention efforts and success initiatives.
- Experience working at a comprehensive community college.
- Experience with project management, event planning, and/or coordination of programs.
Additional Information: Salary Range : $32 per hour
Location : Lowell campus with occasional travel to Bedford as needed
Hours : 18.5 hours per week; schedule to be determined upon hire
Expected Start Date : March 2024
