Job description

Library Media Specialist 

OWNCS is seeking a library media specialist for the 2023-24 school year who will be the primary connection between the library and the school's International Baccalaureate (IB)  framework.  In addition to maintaining the library collection, this educator works closely with classroom teachers, specialists, and the educational technology team to ensure that the library remains an integral part of the instructional program and enhances the IB program.  This collaborative position promotes student curiosity and will engage children in the world of books, foster a love of literature, and work to complement the classroom programs across the network.  The library media specialist will split their time evenly between OWN 1 Elementary School and OWN 1 Middle School.

The librarian will be responsible for providing a student-centered learning environment that encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity while promoting literacy through literature and technology.  This person is responsible for keeping current with current literature and educational media programming, encouraging a dynamic library space, and maintaining library budgets.

Position Summary

-Assist faculty and students using the school's library, media, and technology resources.

-Maintain and enhance library resources, including physical print and digital books, as well as circulation of these to students and teachers.

- Stays current with the latest technology and shares best practices in integrating technology & information literacy skills.

Qualifications

-Worked in a school setting, preferably a library, for at least two years.

-Certified in NYS as a librarian.

-Trained in International Baccalaureate (IB) for PYP and/or MYP programs (preferred).

-Experience with technology, especially the use of SmartBoard and G Suite.

-Experience working with students in a whole group setting.

-Familiarity with library technology, shelving, and circulation.

Duties and Responsibilities

-Demonstrate an understanding of current and ongoing elementary and middle school curriculum initiatives.

-Create innovative and engaging lessons independently and collaboratively with teachers, especially relating to projects connected to International Baccalaureate studies.

-Maintain, select, acquire, evaluate, discard, and organize physical and digital library collections.

-Collaborate with all stakeholders to create network-wide initiatives to promote literacy and cultivate a love of reading, thinking, and information-seeking.

-Participate in ongoing professional development on emerging curriculum design, technologies, and pedagogies of instructional media technology.

-Provide knowledge, leadership, and vision to ensure the growth and success of the library program.

-Plan instruction and enhance the library media program using the NY State standards and IB framework.

-Promote the OWNCS Academic Integrity Policy, focusing on the ethical use of information.

-Work in partnership with network librarians to maintain continuity across the network.

Disclosure:

The anticipated base salary range for individuals interested in this position is based on our salary scale model.  The salary range is $65,116 -  $89,455.00/yr, depending on experience and credentials.
