Job description

The Staff Physician, Pediatrician postion serves as member of a transdisciplinary assessment team in the provision of medical information, student evaluations, diagnostic/ treatment plans and /or training services to local educational agencies (LEAs), including delivery of educationally relevant medical information regarding diagnoses, planning and impact of diagnoses on student learning for students with any disabling condition(s). Specific training services may include technical assistance and/or presentation of professional development activities for LEA staff and parents.

Working Conditions
Will work in a temperature-controlled environment with lighting, predominantly sit (or sit/stand) at desk during normal working hours to perform daily duties, and may be required to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.


May be required to bend, squat, kneel, stoop, or sit on ground when working with and assessing students. May be required to drive state fleet vehicles or sit in vehicles with coworkers when going to/from school districts or assessment sites. Overnight stay may be required.

Department Information The Diagnostic Center, Southern California provides high-quality, individualized services to special education students, their families, and school districts.


Services are provided by expert, transdisciplinary teams of diagnostic professionals that may include educational specialists, speech-language specialists, school psychologists, clinical psychologists, motor specialists, and pediatricians who address the unique educational needs of Southern California's most difficult-to-serve students enrolled in special education programs.


The Diagnostic Center, Southern California is one of three regional assessment centers operated by the State Special Schools and Services Division of the California Department of Education. The Centers provide assessment, training, and technical assistance to all Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) in California. Each of the three Centers serves a specific geographic region in the state: Southern California Los Angeles, Central California Fresno, Northern California, Fremont.


Our services include: There is no cost for our services; however, request for assessment services must be generated by the local school district.

The Diagnostic Center Southern California is located in Los Angeles, near Cal State Los Angeles.
