Job Overview
The Communications Coordinator for Integrated Communications and Outreach is responsible for overseeing interdepartmental communications projects, crisis and incident management, and additional communications and outreach that ensures two-way communications to help build LCPS' reputation, attract and retain a world-class workforce (Employer of Choice) and provides support and information for schools, parents/guardians and other community stakeholders.
Roles and Responsibilities The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; work may differ and other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate.
- Apply journalistic writing style, research skills, and excellent writing and editing skills to create media releases, fact sheets, crisis communications, social media campaigns, standard operating procedures, project plans and supports.
- Bring a depth of knowledge to school-based issues to provide executive writing and speechwriting for division leadership.
- Analyze the internal and external communications landscape to identify opportunities to streamline and amplify LCPS messages and broaden community awareness.
- Manage social media campaigns to support LCPS in becoming the Employer of Choice;
- Analyze data and leverage analytics to assist in decision making
- Create and coordinate recruitment materials and advertisements tailored to reach a wide range of candidates
- Support and coordinate crisis and incident messaging in conjunction with the Public Information Officer (PIO).
- May need to occasionally attend after hours meetings, including superintendent's appearances.
Qualifications Below are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable.
Education B achelor's degree in Journalism or a related field
Experience 5 or more years of professional experience in marketing or communications
School communications experience preferred
Licenses and Certifications NA
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Strong journalistic writing and executive-level writing experience
- Demonstrated effective project management skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, to include evenings and weekends, in order to meet the needs of the school community and the nature of crisis communications and media relations
- Excellent communications and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once
- Experience working with diverse communities in a school situation a plus
- Strong skills with MS Office tools including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word, and Google Suite
- Valid driver's license
- Possesses the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school personnel
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred

Remote work privileges can be amended, changed, or revoked based upon the performance of the employee, as well as the needs of Loudoun County Public Schools.
