Full job description
Position: Income Advance Program Manager
Experience: Mid-Level
Note: This is 3-year grant funded position with the possibility of extension beyond the initial 3-year term.
Organization
Founded in 1980, Rhino Foods has been experimenting with and implementing progressive, people centered workplace practices for decades. From well-worn programs like Open Book Management to our own innovations like Employee Exchange and the employer sponsored small dollar loan program, Income Advance.
Formalizing how Rhino shares information about these programs with other businesses was the catalyst for creating the Rhino Foods Foundation whose mission is, “to spread innovative workplace practices that champion employee financial stability and make good business sense.”
Position Overview
Income Advance provides employees with easy access to an emergency loan when they encounter unexpected difficulties, helps build their credit, and encourages savings for the long-term. Income Advance loans get emergency funds to an employee within 24 hours, are paid back via payroll deduction, have an interest rate of 20% or less, a loan maximum of $2000, and a payback period of at least 6 months.
The Income Advance (IA) Program Manager will work with community partners including businesses, credit unions, community banks, and social service organizations to expand the Income Advance Program throughout New York and New England. The IA Program Manager will systematically collect and share information, steward partners, and create and disseminate resources. In addition to program stewardship, the program manager will work with partners to map current activity around Income Advance programs, or similar initiatives throughout New York and New England and more proactively engage them to understand how we can provide support and foster growth.
Key Deliverables/Expectations
- Identify target employers and financial institutions to offer the Income Advance program throughout the region. Engage targets to provide information and technical support to successfully onboard them.
- Identify target employers, financial institutions and community organizations that have adopted the Income Advance program (or comparative employer sponsored small dollar loan programs under different names) throughout the target region.
- Map which employers and community organizations in the region are either implementing the Income Advance program already or are in the process of setting something up, what lenders are currently offering something akin to Income Advance loans and their reach, and which United Ways in New England/New York are interested in possibly working with local employers to provide financial wellness at work programming and if Income Advance might fit into that portfolio.
- Collaborate with the identified entities to strengthen and/or expand their programs through the provision of information, resources, and ongoing support.
- Survey partners to understand their barriers to implementation and/or growth.
- Develop resources for capacity building across each group of contributors (employers, lenders, and community organizations).
- Engage in targeted capacity building as necessary to ensure the entire ecosystem of partners are in place in communities looking to implement the Income Advance program.
- Field requests for information and steward partners on behalf of the Rhino Foods Foundation, North Country Federal Credit Union and the United Way of Northwest Vermont.
- Jointly establish shared performance measures, evaluation criteria, and data sharing protocol to track our collective progress toward creating a more inclusive and equitable economy, close the racial wealth gap, and address barriers to financial stability.
