Stags Leap Wine Cellars is hiring 2 seasonal Vineyard-Lab Interns!

These two internships are a bit of a hybrid position since they will help and learn from the Viticulture and Production teams during harvest. One Intern will begin work from May through early November, the second Intern will begin work from Mid-July through late November.

Interns will be responsible for berry and cluster sampling at estate and grower vineyards throughout the Napa Valley. In addition, the intern will also focus on harvest lab analysis, fermentation analysis, and cellar operations.

Essential Functions

•  Gather, process, and record grape maturity samples.
•  Assist with crop estimates, measurement of vine water status, pest and disease monitoring.
•  Must be proficient in building and maintaining Excel spreadsheets.
•  Basic wet chemistry and enzymatic analysis for juice must and wine.
•  Accurate lab record keeping.
•  Tank/barrel sampling and nutrient additions.
•  Brix and temperatures for our fermentations.
•  Bottling QC (if needed).
•  Interacts with Custom Crush Partners at offsite crush facility.
•  Perform basic barrel/cellar work as needed to support production.
•  Work long hours as required at harvest which may include night shift and weekend work.
•  Performs all job functions in strict adherence to company Health and Safety protocols, and in accordance with quality control standards and standard equipment operating procedures.
•  Performs other duties as assigned by manager

Working Conditions

•  Ability and desire to work outdoors during inclement weather conditions on a regular basis.
•  Ability to stand for long periods of time
•  Ability to perform in an environment with regular exposure to various indoor and outdoor weather conditions.

Physical Requirements

•  Ability to lift, bend, stoop, carry (up to 40 lbs.) over a variety of terrain, and use pruning shears.
•  Job duties are performed primarily from a standing position

Qualifications

•  College degree in related field or coursework working towards degree
•  Knowledge of basic chemistry is required.
•  Valid driver’s license.
•  Reliable transportation, current insurance, and a clean DMV record.
•  Knowledge of basic computer programs including Word and Excel.
•  Ability to read, write and fluent in English.
•  Commitment to excellence and high standards.
•  Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work and learn within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
•  Passion and interest for the wine industry desired.
•  History of responsible use of alcohol and other appropriate conduct, as well as fitness to be licensed, permitted, and/or certified by state and/or local regulatory bodies.
